Emerald's POV~
I pressed the doorbell once again and I waited for someone—anyone to open the door.
Time ticked by and I began to lose my patience. I really needed to see Candice. There was no reason in particular.
I just wanted to see her.
I began to bounce on the balls of my feet and I checked my wristwatch. What was taking her so long? How come no one answered the door?
I was about to press the doorbell again, but I was stopped short because the door flew open. I was flabbergasted when I took in the woman before me. She was very attractive.
Well, sh-t!
"Hey, boss." The woman lazily saluted me and gestured me to step inside.
"Hi." I awkwardly replied. "Is Candice here?"
"Yes, she is."
The woman seemed to assess me from head to toe. I stared at her–mostly confused as to why she was assessing me in the first place. After a moment she crossed her arms over her chest and a smirk fell upon her features.
"You really like her, huh?"
It sounded more like a statement rather than a question, but I confirmed it nonetheless.
"That I do."
"So why the little incident at the restaurant the other day?" Her friendly smile was instantaneously replaced by a hard look.
Oh, she was that friend Candice told everything to.
"It was a misunderstanding. That's all."
I had suddenly begun to dislike where this conversation was going.
"Sure." Disbelief was painted all over her face. "Have you met her family? Has she met yours?"
"What? No. We haven't actually –"
"Do you plan on introducing her to your family?" She continued to press further.
Okay, where was this chick heading to with all the interrogation and whatnot? I didn't mind her nosiness at first, but her questions were becoming a bit too personal.
"Where are you going with—"
"Yes or no?"
I threw my hands up in exasperation. "Of course I do! We just haven't spoken about that yet."
"Good. You better take her seriously because if you dont–I'll make sure you regret it." She nodded sternly.
"Did you just threaten me?" I asked in pure disbelief.
"I believe I did." She answered nonchalantly.
"You have no idea what I'm capable of." I laughed without humor.
"That's exactly why I'm threatening you to take care of Candice." She stepped closer towards me. "Or would you rather see the love of your life in someone else's arms?"
I clenched my jaw and decided not to reply to her comment. This was Candice's friend and I had no intention of jumping to bad terms with her. I was slightly bothered by the fact that she threatened me out of nowhere and the fact that she had been so nonchalant about it bothered me even more. But I took her words into consideration and I kept my mouth shut.
"Taking care of Candice is my priority if you must know." I shot back instead.
I saw the smile returning to the woman's face and I couldn't help the dubious stare that I rewarded her with afterward. This woman was so weird!
