Emerald POV~

I continued to look at her while she only stared at Ivette. How I wish I could see what ran through her head in this very moment.

I'm sure her first thought was concerning Ivette's appearance. Maybe she was surprised to see her so big and beautiful. Maybe she was shocked to find out that Ivette had the exact same dirty blonde hair as hers. Or maybe she was shocked to see Ivette smiling at her brightly.

Yes, I'm sure it was the latter.

"I..." She shook her head in a distracted manner. "Can I come in?"

She finally unglued her eyes from Ivette and gave me a pleading look. I only stared back with a blank expression on my face. I wasn't sure what to do.

The nicer part of me wanted to open the door for her and invite her inside, but I was also cautious. Betty was inside and I knew for a fact that she would share a couple of words with Scarlett – and they weren't going to be nice.

I wasn't sure I could take the awkwardness of sitting with Scarlett, Betty and Candice all at once. It was pretty overwhelming just thinking about it.

"Mom, Granny says you need to be nice to everyone." Ivette 'whispered' in my ear.

Scarlett faced Ivette again and I couldn't exactly read the look she had on her face. It was a mixture of sadness and admiration. I bit my tongue before I said something along the lines of 'yeah, too bad you never got to know what it feels like to be called mom'.

After another minute of silently debating what to do, I opened the door wider and invited Scarlett in. She glanced around the place in awe as she removed her jacket. I closed the door behind her and turned around to face her.

"This place is amazing! It must have cost you–"

"Millions." I interrupted. "Scarlett what exactly do you want?"

I placed Ivette down and ordered her to go back to watching her cartoons. Scarlett bit her bottom lip–something she did when she was nervous. She finally tilted her head as she looked up at me.

"I came to talk to her Emerald." She spoke softly.

I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. "And we agreed that you would once I  spoke to her!"

"It's been two days! I assumed you changed your mind and I really want to be a part of her life. I couldn't wait any longer." She confessed.

"You waited eight years to even become interested Scarlett, I'm sure you could have waited a couple of days." I scoffed.

Her mouth dropped open and her eyes averted mine. She couldn't even look me in the eyes after I said that.

I knew why.

She didn't want me to see the guilt that swarmed in them.

"You should have at least given me this day to speak to her." I continued.

Now I had more pressure over this whole ordeal and I knew I needed to speak to Ivette, even if I wasn't ready for it.

"I'm sorry Emmie." She whispered.

My mind immediately traveled back to the time where Scarlett and I were still dating. The way her green eyes sparkled and the way her smile would widen each time I told her I loved her. How she would play with my hair and call me Emmie. Or how we would randomly go out for walks or she visited me at my office.

But I also remembered her cheating on me. With my best friend. I remembered the excruciating feelings.

It took me a moment to realize I wasn't remembering the heartbreak – I was actually feeling it.
