Candice POV~
"Que sorpresa verte aqui, Candie."
My body immediately tensed at the sound of that angelic voice. I didn't understand what she said, but I noticed the strained tone that laced her foreign words. That could only mean one thing.
She was either mad at me or she was hurt by my early departure.
I didn't know which one was better than the other. But of one thing I was certain- I didn't want to talk about what we had done earlier.
What was she even doing here?
I slowly turned around and faced her. My eyes quickly took her in and I nervously bit my bottom lip. That deep red dress was hugging her body in all the right places. Her shiny, dark, hair was styled in a perfect up do. Making her cheekbones appear more prominent and her eyes seemed to be the deepest blue I've ever seen. Her heels made her tower over me and instead of being intimidated- I was getting hot and flustered.
As images of our earlier encounter polluted my mind, I ducked my head in order to hide the blush that had spread over my face.
Not now Candice!
"So..." Emerald trailed off.
I bit my lip again and I nervously met her intense gaze. Those eyes were making my insides churn and I wanted to avoid them for a couple more days.
"Got anything to say?" She raised a brow.
"I-uh-...what are you doing here?"
She cocked her head to the side and her mouth quirked up in a slight smirk.
"What are you doing here?" She directed my question right back at me.
I rolled my eyes at her childish behavior. "I was invited to this dinner being hosted by my still unknown boss."
Her face then turned into a collage of different emotions. Shock, surprise and a slightly panicked expression finally settled onto her face. I'm sure that if she had been drinking something, she would have been choking by now.
Noting my confused look she instantly recovered herself and her mouth quickly opened.
"What do you think your boss will be like?" She asked me suddenly.
"My boss?" I questioned. "Isn't she your boss as well? I mean, we are standing in the city's most luxurious and expensive restaurant attending a dinner that was meant to celebrate our promotions. Unless you're loaded enough to come here regularly and walk around casually with a glass of champagne in your hand."
She threw her head back and a melodic chuckle emanated from her throat.
"Oh, this?" She gestured the glass of champagne in her hand before downing it. "Well, let's make this a hell of a night then! But– you didn't answer my question."
A small smile crossed my face at her sudden enthusiasm. Well she seemed pretty anxious to hear my answer.
"I honestly have no clue or idea to how she is, or how she even looks. But I'm sure she will be an over confident woman. Strong and most likely very powerful. Not physically, but more like intellectually and emotionally speaking. I believe she will be a kind woman and very appreciative. I mean, she's hosting this dinner for her employees as a thank you. You don't really hear about big business managers doing something similar for their workers. So I think she will be an amazing person. Her success isn't worthless. She's actually encouraging women to follow in her steps and succeed despite a world of sexism. That's what I think of my unknown boss." I laughed at the absurdity of that confession.
But I really did mean all of those words. And Emerald seemed well aware of that because her previous goofy face was replaced by a solemn look. She was so out of it that I began to question myself if I had said something wrong.
We had only been speaking for a couple of minutes and she had been acting so weird. I wondered if she was doing okay or if something was bothering her altogether.
It was well into the night and the restaurant seemed absolutely packed. I had lost sight of Nancy since we got here and I was still facing a spaced out Emerald. Just as I was about to speak to her and tease her shocked self, a voice cut me off short.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Perez Demount. We would like to wish all of you a pleasurable night and of course, an exquisite dinner." There was a few chuckles and the man continued speaking.
"I have to go– see you in a bit." Emerald quickly dismissed herself.
"Before dinner is served however, our boss would like to give a few words. May we have a big round of applause to the most amazing boss."
A deafening sound of palms clapping echoed around the restaurant. I began to clap as well as I awaited for the 'amazing boss' to reveal herself. I was anxious to see her already and see what the hype was all about, seeing how everyone deemed her of being caring and her reputation seemed great.
"Good evening to all of you." A voice resonated through the microphone.
What in the–
"I'm Emerald Perez. Also known as your host for tonight's reservations." Her eyes met mine and I was shocked to say the least. "I'm your unknown boss."
Her amused smile ticked me off and I angrily stood up from my seat. I didn't even know why I was angered by her sudden confession.
She lied to me!
I ignored her speech as I made my way out of the restaurant. I needed some fresh air. I needed to clear my mind and ignore the fact that I had f*cked my boss earlier today.
What was I going to do?
