Chapter 54:

As we sat watching Frosty the Snowman, I noticed Kendall was nervous about something. His leg which held mine was moving constantly and his hand kept moving on the arm rest. "Babe, you okay?" I asked him. He looked at me with a cool smile and nodded. We watched the rest of the movie when Kendall's phone rang. He reached in his pocket as I realized my phone was upstairs.

"Heather? What's up?" Kendall asked. His families eyes stayed on him. "Wait. Wait. Slow down, girl. I can't understand a thing you're saying." Kendall said. He sat forward on the couch and listened. I already could guess what had happened. Scott's dad. Scott's dad used to abuse him. His parents got a divorce but at Christmas time his parents would get together for the Scott's sake. My guess to why Heather is freaking out that Scott got in a fight with his dad like always."Oh my Gosh. Why would he do that?!" Kendall asked shocked.

"Scott and his dad?" I asked quietly. Kendall nodded looking at me. I sighed and gestured for the phone as Kendall told Heather he was giving me the phone. "Hello?" I asked. Heather was sobbing. "Heather, listen to me. Get your presents you gave them, leave the presents they gave you, get Scott into your rental car, and get out now." I instructed her as she cried more.

"They left us in the house so they could go get booze..." She told me barely audible.

"Heather, where is Scott?" I asked. I stood up and walked behind the couch where Kenneth, Kathy, and Kent sat listening in, and started to pace the carpet as Kent paused the movie.

"He's laying on a bed in the guest room. His nose is broken. Bobby, he's gonna have a broken nose for the wedding!" She cried. I wanted to giggle at the last concern of hers but knew she'd been through enough. "Heather, wake him up, grab their gifts to you, your stuff, grab the gifts you gave them, and get out now! Go to a hotel! Okay? Can you do that for me?" I asked being sympathetic. "Your flight is tomorrow morning anyway, so you'll only have to spend one night in a hotel." I added.

"Okay." She sniffed. I could hear her moving stuff around and zipping stuff up.

"Okay, now I'm gonna hang up. Call me back on Kendall's phone when you and Scott are both back in your car and on the road okay? And then you're gonna call me again once you get into a hotel room, okay?" I asked. I was starting to worry that they wouldn't make it out before his dad came back. I was worried that if they get out, and looked like they were leaving, Scott's dad might turn on Heather too. I hung up with her and walked back to the couch breathing a breath of sadness.

"What's going on?" Kevin asked. I sighed.

"My friend Scott, has and abusive father, he beat Scott I guess, and so Heather is freaking out. I want them out before his dad got back, so that his dad doesn't try to hurt Heather or Scott for the second time. I've been there when Scott's dad has lost it, and it's nothing that they need before the wedding." I explained leaning on Kendall's shoulder and taking his hand in mine. Everyone except Kendall had a look of shock on their faces.

"Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous! What Kind of father does that to his own child?!" Kenneth exclaimed in disbelief.

"He's not a real father then." Kent said obviously angry from hearing this. I nodded.

"Trust me I know. They are worthless parents, which is why I think Scott and I got along so well. He and I were in the same situation. I had a mom who worked, drank, and slept around, while my dad wasn't in the picture. Then Scott had an abusive father and a mother who didn't do anything to stop it." I shrugged.

"But you turned out so well, and if Heather is engaged to your friend, he must've been raised with some kind of morals as well." Kathy said touching my knee from the couch. I smiled weakly.

"All we can do is wait." Kendall sighed leaning his head on mine which was still on his shoulder.
