Chapter 55:
Eventually, Heather called saying they had made it to a hotel. Everyone here in California could all breathe again. Soon after we got the call, dinner was ready. We all went into the kitchen and stood in a circle to give thanks. "Who wants to say grace?" Kent asked us all. Everyone looked at one another as I held Kendall and Kevin's hands.
"I think Bobby should." Kathy smiled at me from across our little circle. I smirked weakly not knowing what I would be saying.
"Uh okay, bow our heads." I started closing my eyes and bowing my head, I quickly looked up and saw they all did the same. "Dear Lord, thank you for your sacrifices. Thank you for the food we are about to consume. Thank you for having everyone we love and care about safe and under a roof. Thank you for the luxuries we have that some unfortunately don't have. Dear Lord, thank you for having me here today with a family who cares and protects me as if I was an actual part of this family. In Jesus name, Amen." I said a tear shedding down my cheek. They all murmured 'Amen' and eventually looked up. Kathy had tears in her eyes and was letting one shed down her cheek as the men acted like they didn't have watery eyes. She let go of her husband and sons hand and came to me. We embraced for a long time while she whispered in my ear.
"You're the daughter I never had." As she pulled away smiling I let my tears fall freely. She was the mother figure I never had growing up. She was someone who cared for me as a mother would.
"I love you Kathy." I said smiling at her older womanly features. She cried closing her eyes and hugged me once more.
"I love you too Bobby." She told me. Eventually we broke apart and started eating. Kathy turned up the Christmas songs as we ate our dinner in peace. I was excited to finish the dinner so I could finally see what Kendall was getting me for Christmas. I sat quietly after dinner and helping Kendall and Kathy clean up the kitchen and put away the left overs. Kendall then told me to go get my purse, which I had put all my stuff in my new Chanel purse, and I grabbed his and mine coats. I hurried back down stairs as Kendall was running up.
"Hey, I have your coat!" I told him as we met in the middle. He smiled nervously and grabbed the coat.
"I'm going to get something out of our room, you go stand by the door. Ill only be a sec." He smiled kissing my cheek and passing me on his way up. I didn't know what was going on, all I knew was that Kendall was nervous and that's not like him. I walked down the stairs to Kathy and the men sitting around the couch watching The Santa Claus movie.
"Hey guys, did you notice Kendall's been acting a little weird?" I asked as I put on my coat. I slipped on my combat boots which were by the door. They all shrugged.
"Alrighty then." I said as if I was being ignored. Kendall was coming down the stairs with gloves and beanies in his hand. I pulled my hair out of my coat once he handed me the beanie.
"Put this on, and put these on too." He said after I put on the beanie, I put on the gloves as well. I did as I was told and stood there waiting for him to say anything. He didn't he just stood there smiling at me.
"What?" I asked.
"You just look beautiful, that's all." He whispered. "Bye guys! We'll be back around eleven!" He shouted pushing me towards the door. "Here you open it." Kendall said breathlessly standing behind me. He was acting so weird. I slowly opened the knob, not really knowing what to expect when I saw Kendall's excitement at the end of the curb.
