Chapter 56:
The dark sky was illuminated by street lights and the gentle falling of snowflakes onto the cold ground. I turned to Kendall and smiled at him. His smile was grand and beautiful. His green eyes were even more electric at this moment. I grabbed his hand and hurried to the end of the walk way. There sat a crimson red sleigh, with black crushed velvet seats and sleigh bells hanging off the sides. There was an elevated seat above the seat where Kendall and I were now sitting. A man dressed from the Victorian era with a top hat and all, sitting on it tipping his hat to me smiled as he held the reigns to two black horses, whom had their own sleigh bells hanging off their halters. "What is all this?" I asked settling in to the seat as Kendall pulled a blanket out from the back of the sleigh where I couldn't see what else was behind there. He set it on our laps as he answered my question bringing me under his arm.
"Well, were going to your Christmas present." He told me. The guy started the horses walking but soon they were in a jog as we went down the street.
"This is nothing like I expected." I told Kendall, the snow landing on my gloved hands as I held out them out. Kendall chuckled.
"The night hasn't even begun." Kendall told me. We rode around for two hours, laughing and talking about everything and anything. Kendall finally told the guy to come to a stop at an outside ice rink down town that had no one on the ice. "This is your Christmas present." Kendall informed me. He helped me down as the guy tipped his hat again at Kendall and I.
"What are we doing? Ice skating?" I asked him. Kendall smiled and nodded back at me as he led us to the clerk whom looked like she's been waiting for us.
"Size eleven men's. Size eight women's." Kendall told her as she handed us the skates. We walked over to the bench and started to change our shoes.
"Kendall I've never ice skated before." I told him quietly tying my shoelaces.
"I know, don't worry. I got you babe." Kendall said standing up slowly and then offering his hand and smiling down at me. I stood slowly. We walked over to the rink as the lights went into their cycle, of flashing and strobing.
"If I die tonight, I'm blaming you!" I told Kendall giggling as I almost fell as soon as I stepped onto the ice. Kendall caught me and helped me to skate as he skated backwards. His eyes looked so loving tonight that it made me forget the pain of my cold, and made me realize how deeply in love I was with him.
