The Mark Of the Nether (A Minecraft fanfiction)

Prologue

Piper's POV

Here I was back in the closet again. They said I was the most annoying out of all the orphans. The people who "took care" of us treated us like wild animals. All because we didn't have parents. That meant no one could complain and they could do what they wanted. Rosalyn, the head of the orphanage, said she was sick of me being a "nuisance" so she threw me in here and locked me in. Can you believe it! They. Locked. A. Five-year-old. In. A. CLOSET! WHO DOES THAT? Not to mention it was the sixth time it had happened this week. And It's only Wednesday! 

"Okay, I've checked all the other ones. Sooo you must be...." I could hear faint murmuring on the other side of the door before trailing off. Before I could even react, I heard the lock turn and the door swung open to reveal my 3-year-old-partner-in-crime. Micha! Her scruffy grey ears poked out through her caramel brown hair. She was a wolf hybrid but only I knew it. She could retract her ears and although she liked them to be out, she only showed them at night. Even a toddler knew hybrids weren't exactly welcome with open arms.

"Piper, I'm scared" Micha said as she hugged my legs, tears in her eyes. "The other kids are fighting more often and you're always in this closet! I just wish we could leave."

Seeing Micha like this broke my heart. She was like a little sister to me. I wished we could leave too. Actually, what was stopping us from running away?

Micha's POV

I wiped the tears from my eyes and look back at Piper. She had a sly smirk on her face. I knew what that meant! 

"Ooooh you got an ideaaa!" I whispered/shouted

"Yep meet me in my room in 10 minutes" She said before running off. Piper stopped right before she turned the corner and looked over her shoulder. "And don't forget to pack everything you wanna bring."

Then she disappeared into the darkness. I stood there curious for a few seconds, wondering what she had planned before shrugging it off and running in the opposite direction, my tail flapping rapidly behind me as I went.

(10 minutes later)

Piper's POV

We had just climbed out of my bedroom window and down to the ground. I practically had to carry her down though so she wouldn't fall. We were running away. By now I think Micha had caught onto that because there was a gleam of excitement shining in her emerald eyes. Without another word she changed into her wolf form (She's the kind of wolf hybrid that can show/hide her ears, tail and snout and turn into an actually wolf) I laughed as I chased her into the forest. 

(An hour later)

Where is she? It's been like what 1 hour? I thought to myself. I was walking through a thick forest when suddenly I heard a growl and the shooting of arrows. I picked up my pace to a run and turned the corner only to see two skeletons firing shots at a small wolf pup. Correction. My wolf pup. You'd recognise her anywhere. She looked exactly like a normal wolf in Minecraft except for the caramel streaks that ran across her coat showing her natural hair colour. I decided to sneak past them because I didn't have a weapon. Then hopefully after that I could make a bolt for Micha,grab her and run. But the strange thing was, as I got closer. It almost seemed like the two skeletons were talking?!

"Why did we go after this dog again?"

"Because I thought it was a person."

"Well, clearly it isn't. Can we go now?"

"NO!"

"AND WHY NOT?!"

"BECAUSE... somethings off about this wolf" 

"And what exactly would that be Lenny?"

"I... have no idea" said the skeleton called Lenny. That remark got him elbowed in the ribcage by the other skeleton. Lenny retaliated and after a few shoves and kicks they got in a full blown cat fight. But the pathetic kind which was just them slapping each other's hands for a few moments. Eventually, Lenny shouted "THAT'S IT BOB!" and tackled him to the ground. I just stood there laughing my head off, I could barely breath. That's when they finally looked up and froze.

"You..two" I tried to say in between laughs "are..HILARIOUS!"

Bob opened his mouth-er-jaw to say something but that was about the time Micha had spotted me. She was too scared to look before but she opened her eyes the second she heard me talking. She leapt into my arms then turned back into her human form, hugging me.

"Awwww" Lenny tilted his skull and put a hand over where his heart should've been. "She's adorable"

"Yeah, she really is." I sighed. Bob's eye sockets widened and stepped back a bit.

"So you CAN understand us." He said. 

Bob's POV

Me and Lenny exchanged looks of concern. Could it really be... No. Get some evidence first before you start jumping to conclusions.

"So.." the little girls voice snapped me out of my thoughts. "Are you still gonna try to kill us?" Then she smiled. She Smiled! After all that how could she trust us enough to be friendly with us. We're skeletons for Notch's sake. I only realised that I had completely zoned out when I felt a hand grab my shoulder and turned around to see Lenny smiling.

"Look" he whispered pointing to the two girls on the ground sound asleep. It was heartwarming how the wolf girl held on to the older one because she was scared and in return the older girl had her arm wrapped protectively over her.

I carefully picked them both up, looked at Lenny and smiled.

 "Let's take them back to the camp"
