A/N: Okay, so it has literally been 9, nearly 10 months...
[Warning: Long Author's note. Skip to the stuff in bold for this chapter to make sense, then if you're curious you can come back up]
I don't think I've ever been gone this long before.
Now, I also feel extra annoyed at myself because I updated Agent Phoenix and Death's Trials in June (July..?) but didn't update this.
So I'm going to give you guys an extra treat.
I've already kinda ranted about why I was gone in Agent Phoenix, so I won't repeat that, but I will tell you guys something I forgot to mention from that rant. One of the reasons I got distracted is because I've finally gotten a crush on somebody else!
And- here's the reason I was completely thrown off kilter by it -that person I like-
Is a girl.
So, yeah, turns out I'm Bi. (God I'm not explaining this well XD) So I literally organized a whole full on plan to come out to everyone and I'm glad to say it succeeded (funny enough, this all happened in the last three weeks of June, so during pride month)
Now, here's my explanation for this chapter:
This is what you need to know for this chapter. I've mentioned Side stories a long while ago, but never did anything. This is a tester to see how it goes.
A side story would just be a mini story that can't be fitted in the main story of Mark of the Nether. All of these will be canon unless mentioned otherwise. These short stories could be about the main group, Sterling and the rest of her family (who you'll meet later), the Safe House residents and even the last generation (Heather, Griffin, Merline, etc.) like this one is.
Tell me if you guys like this or would rather just see the main story. Or if you'd want these to be put into a separate book.
P.S: There is one part of this that may seem like a spoiler but I promise it doesn't ruin anything whether you find out now or later.
Heather's POV (A/N: God, that feels weird to type):
My satchel was slung haphazardly over my shoulder as I jumped off the train. The station was packed with people, making it nearly impossible to find Jasper.
"Roller Derby, over here!" A voice called out. I spun around to see a familiar face grinning at me from the transport stall. His fluffy black hair held the same disregard for gravity and the dimples that framed his cheeks almost made him look innocent. Almost.
I ran up to him. "Jasper! Hey- Did you just call me 'Roller Derby'?" I paused.
"I heard about the wheelie-shoe incident." He smirked.
"First, they're called roller shoes," I corrected. "And second, what incident?"
"When you stuck wheels on the bottom of two boards of wood, tied them to your feet and proceeded to wreak havoc-"
"It wasn't that bad."
"You convinced the other village kids to race you down a hill and nearly broke your neck." Jasper's smirk widened to a grin as he pulled my satchel off of me and hung it around him like a sash. He started walking out of the station and I hurried to catch up to him.
