Piper's POV:

Slowly, little by little, I felt myself drift back into consciousness. I tried to get up to see if anyone else was awake but something stopped me before I could. Darkness. Darkness surrounded me as far as the eye could see. I couldn't even tell if my eyes were open or closed. I looked down and noticed I could see myself clearly, somehow. As if instead of being in a very dark place I was just in a perfectly lit black void. Something about this place gave me the chills. I don't know if it was because of the fact that I was basically floating in utter blackness or because instead of the usual buzz of silence there was a lack of sound altogether. It was the kind of place that abandoned all senses, it could drive a man to the brink of insanity.

"Hello?" My voice was just above a whisper yet its echo filled the air. Was I dreaming? I had to be. Though, now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I had a dream. Or if I've ever had one, for that matter.

"I see the girl you mean." A woman's voice broke through the silence, seemingly coming from all directions. It was soft and gentle.

"Piper?" This time a man's voice rang out. Just like the first time, it came from everywhere.

"Yes. Take care. It has reached a higher level now. It can read our thoughts."

"What's going on?" I shouted, hoping they could hear me. "Where am I?"

"*sigh* Girl..." The man started.

"Use its name." The woman interrupted.

"Piper. Keeper of the tome."

"Good." The woman approved.

"Tome?" I turned around, still unsure where to look.

"The book you possess. You are the keeper of it, are you not?" The woman questioned. I thought back to the conversation I had in the secret garden.

"Uh. I think you've got the wrong person. That's Ghastly."

"No. Ghastly is the Guardian. He was just filling in for the true keeper."

"That's you Piper." The man finished.

"Woah, woah, woah, okay." I was really confused so I sat down and crossed my legs. Although in a place like this, it was kind of disorienting. "Before you get back to whatever the heck you're talking about, would you at least tell me your names?"

"Once were called the spirit of the mountains." The woman.

"Father sun." The man.

"Mother moon."

"Ancestral spirits, Jinn."

"Ghosts, Leptons, quarks."

"Then gods, demons. Angels."

"The words change. We do not change." The woman finished.

"Why am I here? Wherever here is.. Is this a dream?" I called to them.

"That is for you to decide." I could sense the man was smiling.

"This, is the space in between the universe." The woman spoke proudly. "Where we watch and wait."

"Wait? For what?" I started getting interested.

"The prophecy."

"Can I hear it?!" I decided that if I was gonna be stuck in this place, I might as well make the most of it. I heard whispers of words that seemed scrambled. I couldn't understand them. Then the man chuckled.

"Could I? Sometimes I want to tell them that they are-" More of that scrambling noise.

"It cannot read that thought. It has not yet reached the highest level. Besides, you know it doesn't work that way."
