CHAPTER 39 -BEEN A WHILE

I knocked on his door.

"Come in." I heard his faint answer.

*sighs* This is it, Chaerin. You can do this.

I turned the knob and slowly opened the door. I took a few steps forward until I was infront of his table.

"Please sit down." He ushered me towards one of the chairs beside his table. "So... what do you want to talk about with me?"

"Uhh.." I started then gave him an envelope.

"What is this?" he opened it. "Wait, you're resigning?"

"Yes, sir."

"But why? Is there something wrong? Is your salary not enough? I can increase it if you want, just tell me."

"No, sir. It's not the problem."

"Then what is it? Is there something happening between you and your colleagues?"

Yeah... your bitch of a daughter.

"No sir. It's just... uhh... personal matters."

He nodded. "Oh.. I see. Aren't any more way to change your mind?"

"I'm afraid there's nothing at this time, sir."

"Ms. Lee... stay. You and Mr. Kwon are my employees who matters the most here in my company. Losing either of you is a big deal for me. Please, stay. I'll give you all the rights to your schedule if that can help you."

"Sir----"

"Chaerin-ah... I'm going to have a major deal this coming month and I am planning you and Jiyong to work on it again. Just... this last time. I promise, after this I'll let you go if that's what you really want. I just really can't lose this one."

Oh gosh.

"Uhh.."

"Just one last time, Miss Lee. One last time." He looked at me with eyes anticipating  for a positive response.

Should I do it or not?

I've already decided about this, also Jiyong. We already talked about this. 

But he's almost pleading to me not to go. He said just this project then I'm free to go, right?

*sighs* "Uhh... okay. I'll take this project. Just this then I'll go."

Suddenly, sunshine from behind him can be seen. "Really?! Thank you so much, dear!"

"No problem, sir. I'm glad that I can help."

"I can't thank you enough for this."

"No need to do that sir. Uhh.. I better go now, sir. Have a good day." I bow/ed at him then left his office.

"Hey Chae..." someone called my attention while I was on my way to my area.

I turned around to see someone I never expected to see here. "Youngbae?"

He smiled at me and waved. "Hey..."

"What are you doing here?"

"Uhh.. nothing. Just thought maybe I should pay you a visit here."

"Oh..."

"You free right now? Let's have lunch together. My treat."

"Uhh.. I don't know, Bae." I scratched the back of my neck, hesitating.

"Oh, come on, Chae. It's been a while since I visited you and we hang out together. I already missed us." He grabbed my wrist. "Gaja! I'm not taking a no."

Since I don't have a choice, I followed him. I'll just text Jiyong where I am.

We rode in his car and he started driving. He drove and drove, past our usual spots.

"I thought we're having lunch?"

"We are."

"But we already passed by our favorite resto." I whined.

"I know." He simply replied.

I looked at him and I can see a small smirk forming on his lips.

"Ya! Youngbae.. where are we really going?"

"You'll see."

I shut my mouth at his response and I'll just anticipate on what's bound to happen. I kinda missed my bestfriend though.

"Wasseo! (We arrived!)" He announced. He turned off the engine and unbuckled his seatbelt. I also did mine. We stepped out of the car and I looked around.

"Why are we here? I don't see any restaurants around. Just trees and grass."

He smiled at me. "Let's go." He held my hand and walked farther from the car.

He stopped at an unknown place, still full of trees and grass. "Tada!"

I looked at the ground and saw a blanket and a basket. "We're having a picnic?"

"Bingo! I prepared this myself."

"Jinjja?! What's the occasion?"

"Nothing. Just want to do it."

"O---kay."

"Meokja! We don't want to waste those foods, do we?"

I sat on the blanket and he also did, opposite of me. He put out everything inside the basket and placed it properly on the ground.

My eyes got big at the amount of dishes that has been going out of it.

"You made all this?"

"Uh-huh. Made it with love just for my Sky." He opened the lid of one of the containers and grabbed a piece of kimbap. He placed the kimbap on his hand infront of my mouth, feeding me. "Try this."

I gladly obliged and opened my mouth to welcome a delicious food. "Mmm... it's good. I didn't know you can be this good."

"It's actually my first time. Glad to hear you like it. I won't do this to anyone. Just for you, Chae."

"Aww~ how sweet of you. Thank you. I appreciate it. Let's eat together now."

"Okay."

Every now and then, he feeds me and I also did the same to him, just like the old times.

We were happy talking about random stuffs when I heard ruffling sounds from behind. I quickly turned around to look at what it is. "Did you hear that?" I asked him.

"Hear what?"

"Those ruffling sounds. I think I heard it from there." I pointed to the not so far tree from us.

"Ignore it. It's just a rabbit or something. Continue eating." I nodded.

As what he said, I continued eating everything infront of us. I unintentionally looked at him when I realized that he's not eating anymore and I saw him roaming his eyes around.

"You okay?"

"Huh?" I quickly turned his attention to me.

"You look uneasy."

"Uh... n-no. No. I'm fine. Just remembered something, that's all. Don't mind me."

"Uhh.. o-kay~." I nodded in agreement even though I'm not buying it.
