“Yeah Mads, he’s still clueless,” I told my friend Madison as I painted my toes a deep purple colour. I had my cell phone tucked safely between my ear and shoulder as I sat curled up on my bed so I could reach my toes easier.

“Seriously, how can he be so dense?” Madison was my only friend that knew about Daddy’s scheme. She didn’t have the best parents so she lived with me off and on. She was like part of my family so no one thought it was odd to tell her about the family’s side business.

“I don’t know but Daddy’s pretty happy, so I’m not going to complain.”

“It’s a good thing he’s so good looking, I don’t know how you would be able to put up with him otherwise,” Madison said. Even her voice sounded dazed.

“Please his looks are nothing,” I said clearly. “The guy can't help making googly eyes at the help.”

“Does it matter? He’s still marrying you.”

“Ugh, don’t remind me.”

Madison gasped in my ear. “But he’s the king! Why don’t you want to marry him?”

I shifted my phone to the other side of my body. “I wanted to at first but now he’s just getting on my nerves. He hasn’t even looked at me and he won't kiss me. Why would I want to marry a guy like that?”

“He won't kiss you?” Madison exclaimed. I could picture the surprised face she was most likely making right now.

“No. See what I mean? There must be something wrong with him. No guy can resist-”

There was a knock at my bedroom door.

“Just a sec,” I told Madison. I pressed my phone to my chest and turned to the door. “Come in!” I called out.

The guard who followed Michael around constantly poked his head in. “Miss Telly, Harold has requested your presence in his office immediately.”

I rolled my eyes and gestured to my gleaming wet toes using the polish wand. “Can't you see I’m busy?” I demanded.

“I am only the messenger,” the guard said nodding his head slightly.

“Well tell him I’ll be there later,” I said rudely. I placed my phone back to my ear in attempts that the guard would get the idea and leave. Unfortunately, he didn’t though.

“He said it was important and that you were needed right away,” he said despite my clue to make him leave.

I sighed and placed my phone back against my chest. “Well I’ll go as soon as my toes dry.” I said pointing to my toes again with my polish wand.

“Miss Telly,” the guard said. It was weird hearing him talk like that, whenever I spied on him with Isabelle and Michael, he wasn’t formal at all. “I was informed that if you did not come to see Harold on your own, I would have to bring you there myself and I would prefer not to do that.”

I rolled my eyes and let out a exasperated sigh. “Fine,” I said drawing the word out. I placed my phone to my ear once again and held up one finger to indicate for the impatient guard to wait a moment.

“Mads apparently I’m being summoned.”

“Oh that sucks! Any idea why?” she asked.

“No,” I said sending a glare in the direction of the guard. He didn’t seem fazed at all.

“But didn’t you just paint your toes?” she asked worriedly.

“Yes, and if I ruin them I will not be the one repainting them. Someone else better do them for me,” I told her completely serious. I picked up my bottle of nail polish and twisted it shut.
