~Chef Dermen~
For dinner today some of my waiters made excuses for why they couldn’t serve, normally, I would be mad at them for trying to weasel their way out of work, but today I did not mind.
Apparently, His Majesty was engaged. I had not met his fiancée because I hadn’t served yesterday’s breakfast, they had requested lunch be brought up to their room, and they had had dinner with her parents that night.
This morning my waiters served with no problem, but at lunch a couple were already making excuses and now I have no one left other than my cooks to help me.
It seems like they are all afraid of His Majesty’s fiancée, but looking at her now, I see an attractive little thing. How can anyone be scared of her?
“You, go up to my room and fetch me a sweater, it is cold in here. But bring the white one not the blue one. The blue one needs to be washed. While you’re up there you might as well grab it and through it in the wash,” the little ‘innocent’ girl ordered.
I was baffled, I may be castle staff, but no one ever ordered me around. “It is not my place,” I said politely so she wouldn’t be able to tell I was outraged.
“I don’t care, you are not doing anything so go fetch me my sweater,” she demanded.
I looked pointedly down at the full dinner plates I was holding, her dinner was literally in my hands.
“Jessica, you cannot order the castle staff around. They have jobs they are supposed to do and they don’t do differently,” His Majesty said with a sigh. I had a feeling this wasn’t the first time he had given her this spiel.
I set the food down in front of His Majesty, then Harold and then lastly Jessica. I was tempted to just take away her food and let her starve like how I used to threaten Isabelle when she was little, but I knew I could not do that.
“You have stupid rules,” she said with a pout. It twisted her face and I wanted to laugh at how closely she now resembled a frog. “They are staff, I should be allowed to order them around.”
“They have jobs. They aren’t servants,” His Majesty said tiredly.
“You sent that guard down to tell your girlfriend something,” Jessica pointed out. My stomach twisted when I realized His Majesty’s ‘girlfriend’ was my daughter. He was engaged, he had no right to look that way at my daughter any longer. I knew how he saw her and I was not going to allow it any longer.
“I asked Diego to tell her something. And it wasn’t out of his way, he passes her room when he makes his rounds. He could have said no and I would have gone by myself,” his Majesty explained.
“This ‘her’,” I said even though it was passed time for me to be heading back into the kitchen. “Could it by any chance be my daughter?”
“Yes it is in fact,” His Majesty said.
“You’re dating your servants daughter? That’s just wrong. When you said she lived here I thought at least she had money,” Jessica said in disgust.
“I am not dating Is, and Chef Dermen is not my servant he is my cook. Isabelle is a friend, I just wanted to let her know that I was sorry for missing last night,” His Majesty said.
Last night? What was last night? Has Isabelle been having secret meetings with the teenage king? Is there already something between them that I haven’t noticed on Isabelle’s side?
“And what was supposed to be last night?” Jessica growled.
“I was supposed to meet her and her friends in the games room, but that didn’t happen because we went to visit your parents.”
