After a while of looking, I finally managed to locate the number for the house where my friends were staying.
“Hello?” Nora answered.
“Hey what’s up?” I asked.
“We were just going to leave to come and pick you up. Adam found a lake yesterday and we’re going to go swimming there. It’s just kind of busy.”
“Why don’t we just go swimming here? Theres an outdoor pool somewhere,” I said. A private pool would be much nicer than a probably polluted crowded lake. It was very hot today.
“Ohmygod! Yes! Just a sec.” I heard a whispered conversation on the other side. “Cool we will be there in like a half hour.”
“Actually can I speak to Josh?” he was the reason I had called in the first place.
“Hey Is,” Josh said a couple of minutes later.
“Hi. Can you spend the night here tonight?” I asked sweetly. Josh couldn’t say no to my puppy dog face, but since I couldn’t see him I would just have to sound innocent.
“You want me, to spend the night with you in a freaking castle where Mr. Fricken-Hot-King is walking around?” Josh boomed into the phone.
“Yup,” I said.
Josh squealed. “Wait, what’s the occasion?” He asked calming down slightly.
“My dad told me this morning that he has to go into town for a conference and he’s spending the night there. I don’t want to be alone so I was wondering if you wanted to come stay with me,” I explained. When Dad had told me about the conference he kept apologizing and apologizing for it. I had just told him that I would spend tomorrow with him so it would all be fine. And Dad had told me I had to have one of my friends with me, or I had to go stay with them. I don’t know what he’s so worried about. I had decided to invite Josh here because their place was kind of crowded with the four of them.
“Why don’t you ask Nora?”
“She’ll be too busy drooling over the king to do something with me,” I said calmly.
“And you don’t think I would be?” Josh asked. I could tell he was smiling.
“Yeah. But I don’t think Kingy’s gay so it’s a lost cause.”
“That’s depressing,” Josh said with a sigh. “I’ll go pack now. Oh and go invite Kingy to go swimming with us. I want to see him in swim trunks.”
“I’ll see what I can do.” I hung up before saying goodbye. There was no point, he would just be here in a little bit anyways.
I found my green bikini still in my suitcase and then I slipped shorts and a tank top on over top. Then I set out to found Kingy. He could probably do with a break from being king for an hour or two. But I wouldn’t force him to come if it meant that he wouldn’t be able to sneak away later.
“Sorry Miss Dermen,” a guard said from the hallway where I had nearly collided with him.
I smiled at him. “That’s not fair. How come you know my name and I don’t know yours,” I said ignoring his apology. We hadn’t actually collided, so there was no need for an apology.
“You are funny Miss Dermen. My name is Diego.”
“Please, don’t call me ‘Miss Dermen’. It kind of scares me. Just Is is fine,” I said flashing him another smile. I had a feeling it could pay off being on the good side of one of the guards here.
