~Michael~

I found out from Chef Dermen today that tomorrow is Izzy’s birthday. I had no idea that it was even coming up.

It’s been two weeks since we started build and two weeks since Jessica’s proposition that we date other people until we are officially married. But so far, I have done nothing towards getting Is interested in me. I have stupid little juvenile things, but nothing really mind blowing.

So far with the build, we have completed once large resident house so far and are well into another one. I’m surprised that we are doing this all so fast. But the people of Sorsa are great. Most of them have been putting in more hours than what they need to pay for food, some have even left their crappy jobs to work full time on the build because we are buying their food for them.

Since some people are putting so many extra hours into the build, Is has started a priority list. The people with the most extra hours get spots in the new homes first. But a lot of those families have been giving up their spots to people who can barely work the hours we demand of them, or who are living in to most unsafe houses. It really is amazing.

We now build from ten until six each day. We do those hours so everyone can still be home for dinner, and spend some of the morning with their family if they decide to work the whole day with us. The only day we don’t is Wednesday and that’s because of the food hand out.

People are a lot less hesitant now about taking food. They take as much as they want and we haven’t had any problems with them repaying the hours. Is has a chart set up to count the hours a person does. Each time they come, they check in with her, and check out with her again before they leave. Even if they don’t do great work, they still have a job so all of their time counts.

We’ve been spending every day at the build sites. Izzy’s friends only come sometimes, it is still their vacation. I’ve tried to convince Is to go have fun with them, but she is adamant on helping.

Is doesn’t work on the building part, but she does everything else pretty much by herself. During build times, she is either writing fake reports for my uncle, organizing the next food hand out, putting our finances in order, or checking in and out the workers. It’s a lot for one person, but she handles it fine.

Izzy’s friends come around and help every Wednesday. We don’t ask them to, but they do it to help out with the food, and to spend time with Is I guess. They only come to work on the build if they really have nothing else to do, probably only once a week or so.

Since tomorrow was Izzy’s birthday, I cancelled the build for tomorrow. To make up for it, for eight days we will be starting at nine instead of ten. But she doesn’t know yet. I set up the whole thing with Ron, the contractor, and with Izzy’s Sorsa friend Timothy.

News of the cancelation and reason was sent around by word of mouth. Part of the message was that they couldn’t tell Is.

The people didn’t seem to mind the cancelation. They all adored Is. To them, she was a hero who had been sent just to save them. To them, Is was the girl who had not only started to fix their present, but made a path for a good future for them.

I was king and I still didn’t get the levels of respect that Is got. It was she was their king and I was the commoner that hung around her.

At first the people had tried to treat me specially, but after I explained for a million times that I was doing my job and that Is was the real saint (when she wasn’t in earshot of course), the people started to believe me.

I was counting down the minutes until we were done for today. I had plans for Izzy’s birthday and I wanted to get started on them. Everything was already set up, I had passed everything with my dad, my uncle thought I was working on the build tomorrow so I was excused from meetings anyways; everything was ready. We just needed to get home now.
