After the day at school, Riley went straight home. She didn't have the energy to wait for Olivia to finish packing her things. She quickly drove home and collapsed on her couch, where she sat watching TV.
When it got dark, she heard the distressed sounds of her cat again. She groaned lazily, getting up and walking up the stairs towards the sound. She paused at the attic stairs when she heard growling and scratching from above her.
What the hell is she doing? Riley thought, as she continued on her journey to her beloved cat. She reached the top, turning on the small light as she got there.
She expected to see her cat, alone, but that is not what she saw. A large, green creature was there, who was smelling her cat while the cat meowed at the animal.
Riley widened her eyes and covered her mouth, muffling the weak scream that forced itself out of her. The lizard-like creature snapped its head towards her, and bared it long sharp teeth. Riley backed up, letting out a high pitched scream as the thing ran at her, its tail smashing the boxes as it whipped back and forth behind itself. Riley shut her eyes and used her hands as a blocking mechanism, although she knew that it didn't work very well.
She felt the creature right in front of her, as it just stood there with its eyes never leaving Riley's hand. She opened hers, looking at the creature who seemed mesmerized at her upheld hand.
It raised its own hand, almost touching hers before it whipped its head around and looked at the ceiling, as if he could hear something that Riley couldn't.
It looked back at her, hissing. In one swift motion, before Riley knew it, its had raised its claws and slashed the back of her neck before she collapsed to the ground with the force of it hitting her. She watched with her hand on her neck as it jumped across the floor and threw itself out of the open window and disappear into the night.
Her cat screeched and Riley heard it thump to the ground.
"No!" She yelled, looking at her limp cat in shock. Her fingers and toes felt numb but that didn't stop her from running to her cat. She picked her up, Luna not moving at all. What the hell happened? What did that lizard do to her? She suddenly had a flashback to when she was driving to the police station for Isaac, and that weird thing jumped across the road. As she thought about it more, she realized that the thing that attacked her just before was the same as that thing that jumped in front of her car.
She was sick of living in Beacon Hills. As soon as she turns 18, she's moving far away from there. Away from the supernatural that infested the small town. She held her cat, not knowing what to do. Before she could get up and run to her phone, she heard someone call her name.
"Riley?"
She widened her eyes, looking up at the window where she saw Isaac sitting on the roof.
"What happened? Are you okay?" He asked, entering the house through the window. Riley didn't say anything, her eyebrows permanently furrowed as she held onto her cat. She got up, and backed away from him.
"What do you want?" She asked, looking at him cautiously. Isaac looked at her with a sad expression, and he pushed his hands into his jeans.
"Riley, I'm so sorry for what happened. It wasn't me, please forgive me. You know that I would never hurt you, not on purpose. I can't live with myself knowing that I hurt you." Isaac pleaded, the sadness in his voice evident. Riley sighed; she knew that Isaac was telling the truth, but she couldn't forgive him that easily.
She didn't reply. She didn't know what to think. She loved Isaac, she really did, but how could she trust him after what happened?
"Isaac, you shut yourself away for so long, I thought I did something to you. I had no idea what was going on with you, I thought you were sad that your dad was dead. I felt bad for you, but you were just hiding this secret from me. A really big one, may I add. Isaac, I'm your best friend and you're mine. How can I forgive you for lying to me? Do you not trust me?" Riley said, and Isaac sighed quietly. He shook his head as he looked at the ground.
"Of course I trust you! I don't know, I know I screwed up and I'm sorry. I really, truly am. Riley, you're the only one I actually care about. I love you Riley, and I hate that I kept this from you. But now you know. Please forgive me, I can't believe that I -- that I hurt you. I'm telling the truth. There are no more secrets between us anymore. I promise. I know I messed up, I can't lose you." He ranted, and Riley took in every word. She sat down on some boxes, and Isaac leaned on the window frame. "You're the only person I have left. I don't want anything happening to you."
Riley shut her eyes to stop the tears forming. She really missed Isaac. And when he told her that she was the only person he has left, struck a nerve. She sniffled and smiled at Isaac, walking up to him and looking into eyes.
"I forgive you Isaac." She said, and a look of complete happiness washed over him as he engulfed her into a hug, being mindful of little Luna. He let go of her and looked down at her cat.
"It won't last long, don't worry. Lucky it didn't get you, right?" He said, and Riley frowned.
"What was that thing?" She asked, feeling the back of her neck where the clean cut was obvious.
"We don't know. We only know that it has this venom that can paralyze people when exposed to it." He explained, and Riley frowned even more.
"It cut me, but I'm not paralyzed." She said, and moved her hair to expose the cut. Isaac widened his eyes at the cut, not knowing how that was possible.
"Really? Shit, I don't know why. We should go to Derek." He said, as he lightly dragged his fingers across her neck.
"No. Not now, I just want to look after my cat." She said, and traveled down the stairs and went into her room, with Isaac following her.
"Fair enough."
