Riley arrived to what looked like an abandoned warehouse. It definitely looked abandoned, and Riley was starting to wonder where everyone was. Maybe they all went home? Maybe Isaac just wanted to spend some time with Riley. That's understandable. Isaac really needed to make up for the wrong things that he was doing. But Riley could never stay mad at him for long; he was her best friend. She texted Isaac again, as she stayed in the car with her lights and engine off. She kept looking around, trying to see anyone through the dimmed windows or just standing around.
Her phone buzzed, and Isaac had replied.
'come inside, i'm waiting for you'
Riley thought that was a bit creepy, but still, it was Isaac. He was, in a way, a bit creepy. She got out of her car and locked it, leaving it parked in the parking lot. She walked up to the building and opened the large door, which creaked loudly. She stepped inside, shutting the door behind her as it was absolutely freezing out there. It was a bit the same inside, but still, it was a tiny bit better.
"Isaac?" She called out, looking around. It was dark, but not dark enough to not be able to see the room. There were dim lights coming from the steps that lead down to what Riley was assuming the basement. She followed them, seeing that there wasn't really anything else to do. She definitely thought that it was beyond scary to be meeting Isaac alone in a creepy abandoned warehouse's basement with low lights. Yep, definitely sent a chill down her spine a few times.
She got to the bottom of the stairs, and found that she was looking at Erica and Derek instead of Isaac. Derek was holding Isaac's phone in his hands. Riley frowned deeply as she stood at the bottom of the stairs, very confused as to what was going on.
"Um, hello." She said, and Erica smiled at her.
"Hello Riley. You're probably wondering where Isaac is right now." Derek said, and shoved Isaac's phone in his pocket. Riley crossed her arms and walked a little closer to them.
"Yeah, I am actually. Why do you have his phone?" She asked, and Derek didn't smile.
"I needed to borrow it for the night. Look Riley, Isaac told me that you said you got attacked by the Kanima a couple of weeks ago. Is this true?" He asked, mimicking Riley by folding his arms across his chest as well.
"Yeah, it is true. It also attacked my cat." She replied, pouting at the memory. She imagined her mum and Luna all snuggled up cozily on the couch, the cat licking the butter off of her mother's fingers and eating the rest of the popcorn from the bowl. She hoped that the eating part wasn't actually true, since Riley really wanted the rest of that popcorn.
"And what happened to your cat that didn't happen to you?" He asked again, and Riley frowned. Didn't he just say that Isaac told him about what happened?
"My cat got paralyzed, and I didn't." She answered quietly, feeling the back of her neck. The cut was still prominent. "But still, there could be a lot of reasons as to why it didn't."
"Oh really, like what?" He asked, and Riley frowned at him. Jesus christ, he asks a lot of questions. "Maybe it's because a snake can't be poisoned by its own venom."
"What are you talking--"
Erica rushed towards Riley in a dangerous manner as she widened her eyes and held her hands out. She grabbed Riley and yanked her towards Derek, who was putting on heavy duty gloves and picked up a shard of glass. Erica forced Riley onto her knees as she tried to fight back in protest, although it wasn't really working that well. Erica held her mouth open tightly and tilted Riley's head back, as Riley stared at Derek with large, glossy eyes.
"What are you doing?" Riley tried to say, although it did not come out as well as she thought, given the situation that she was in. She tried to close her mouth, but she had failed. She struggled against Erica's tight grip, but she still failed. She tried to pull Erica's hands off of her using her own hands, but Erica was too strong. Every time she tried to pull away, Erica dug her claws deeper into the sides of her face - she groaned in pain and felt tears build up in her eyes.
"Sit still Riley, this is just a test." Derek said coolly, and raised the glass above her mouth and tapped on it. Riley saw a thick clear substance run slowly down to the tip of glass which was right above Riley's open mouth. She tried to pull back, but they both had tight grips and steady hands. The jelly made a single droplet before collapsing into Riley's mouth. They both pulled away as Riley felt it in her mouth, trying to spit it out. But it had already gone down her throat, with the help (or forceful hand) of Erica. It tasted like disgusting poison and had an undertone taste of something very zingy. She couldn't describe it, only that it made her mouth and esophagus burn mildly. She kept swallowing her spit, trying to see if that made a difference. It hardly did.
But the thing that Riley wasn't focused on was that she had not collapsed, the thing that everyone else would have done when faced with the Kanima's venom. Derek and Erica watched in shock, as she sat on the ground with a disgusted look on her face.
