"I want to know what happened to me the night that we found out that Jackson was the Kanima." Riley demanded, as she stood in front of Stiles in the animal clinic. She dragged him to Dr. Deaton so he could tell him what happened and hopefully offer an explanation as to why Riley had done what she did. Stiles was sitting on the chair, looking up at her with his chin in his hands as he leaned on the arm rest.

"You were sitting on the couch and you seemed to be staring at something, like it was the most interesting thing you've seen. Then I called for your help when Isaac was mauling me, you stood up and pushed Isaac into the wall. But you were still staring, as if your eyes were drifting in a way. But then you realized what happened and backed away. I'm pretty sure you ran outside, but I was a bit shocked since I thought that you and Isaac were, close or something." Stiles explained, and Deaton nodded as he listened. Riley looked at Deaton and rested her hand on the table as she leaned on it.

"And when I was outside, I was talking to Derek with such confidence that I never knew I had... Then I offered for him to bite me! I know, why would I do that?" She added, nodding at the surprised faces staring at her.

"Wait, wait, wait. You asked Derek to bite you? Why the hell would you want some of Derek's DNA inside you?" Stiles interrupted, leaning forward in his chair. Riley looked at him in a bored manner.

"I was trying to prove a point." She replied, and Stiles looked exasperated.

"A point? What kind of point were you trying to prove?" He asked loudly, as if it was a stupid idea.

"I was trying to prove that I wasn't the Kanima! Why do you ask so many questions?" She snapped, and ignored Stiles as she turned to Deaton. "So, do you know what happened? I know it had something to do with me having that shield thing. I read about it, apparently my ancestor is attached to my soul and woke up when I found out what I was. Now it's protecting me. I guess you forgot to tell me that part?"

Deaton looked at her, studying her face as he tried to think of an explanation.

"Because you haven't gained complete control over your ability because you only just found out, the ancestor sometimes comes out and acts for you when it senses you are in danger. That's what happened when you pushed Isaac off of Stiles. It sensed that Isaac was a werewolf. You must keep in mind that your family were not very fond of the supernatural, which is why you have this gift; which protects you from the supernatural. Technically speaking, you aren't really a part of the supernatural world in the context that is your ability. You're more or less, hidden from the supernatural world because of the shield that is your ancestor." He explained, and Riley nodded as he went along. Stiles just sat there, confusion written on his face as Dr. Deaton talked.

"Would you know which ancestor it is? How can I control it?" She asked, and Deaton sighed.

"Unfortunately, I don't have the right answer for both of those questions. Only shields can teach themselves how to gain control and only shields can find out who their ancestor is. Think of your ancestor as a... Guardian Angel, always watching you. It is always awake, watching over you. Do some research on your family and find old photos. It's rumored that if you see a picture of the ancestor guarding you, the ancestor will take over because it recognizes something of its own time. But, because it is very old, it will only recognize itself. On rare occasions, it may recognize someone else that was close to them, or someone that filled them with such a powerful emotion, but that is not very common." Deaton replied, and Riley nodded.

"You sure know a lot about shields, don't you?" She asked, and wondered if he knew more than what he was letting on. Dr. Deaton smiled and nodded.

"Shields are a fascinating subject and I've done a lot more research since I discovered that I've met one. The best thing you can do right now is to talk to your family and see if they have any old pictures or if they know anything." Deaton said, and Riley bit her lip. She couldn't talk to her family; she basically doesn't have one. But she had to try.

"Okay, thanks again, Dr. I'll get started." She smiled and waved goodbye and she and Stiles headed out.

"We have so much on our plates right now." Stiles sighed, shaking his head as he put his hands on his waist. Riley frowned and rolled her eyes secretly as they both got in her car.

"Stiles, are you going to tell Scott and the others what I am?" She asked, as she put on her seatbelt.

"Yeah, I mean, I hardly know anything, but I'll give it a shot." He replied, and Riley drove out of the carpark and onto the road.

"Maybe you should hold that off until I know more about it, okay?" She asked, and Stiles watched the passing houses and trees as they drove.

"Why are you even telling me this? I didn't know that were actually friends." He frowned, and Riley was a little offended. She considered Stiles to be her friend! Well, not really. More or less like, distant friends. They're not acquaintances but they're not close enough to be friends.

"Because to be honest, you're the only person I can actually deal with right now. I haven't talked to Isaac or anyone in ages and you're the most real person; you don't care if you hurt someone's feelings for the sake of the truth." She explained, as Stiles listened. He didn't know how to respond, since she basically just called him insensitive.

They drove for a while in silence, the radio playing music.

"So, what happened when you went after Derek? I heard about that night club, but not much." Riley asked a few minutes later, sparking a conversation.

"Um, Derek and Jackson fought with each other, then Jackson ran off to the Jungle club. Scott and I were trying to figure out who he was going to kill next, and realized that it was Danny when we spotted him in the club. Jackson paralyzed a few people, Derek showed up in his wolf attire and slashed Jackson's throat. Then he ran off and Scott found him in human form unconscious. So we took him in my car, ran into my dad and quickly left after that. Right now, he's in a high security police truck in the Preserve. We're trying to figure out what to do." Stiles told the story of the eventful night to Riley, as she listened carefully. She tried to think about what to do as well, but she did not know much about Kanimas.

"Well, I don't think that you should keep him in that truck, for one thing. What if someone notices he's missing?" She asked, and Stiles smiled.

"Don't worry, I've been using his phone to text his dad." He smirked, and Riley paused, then rolled her eyes.

"Okay, let's say that that plan doesn't work and they suspect that something is wrong. You do realize that they can track phones?" She informed, and Stiles waved her off.

"They don't need to track the phone because nothing is wrong." He replied, tapping his nose and Riley glanced at him. She returned her gaze to the road, ending the conversation.
