"Derek thinks I'm the Kanima which is why he's trying to kill me." Riley basically summed it all up in one sentence. Scott frowned, and looked at her as she was driving.
"Why?" He asked, and Riley slowed down at the red light.
"Because- Because a snake can't be poisoned by its own venom." She quoted Derek from the incident and Scott looked at the road again, not satisfied with her answer. It took him a bit of thinking, but he finally understood what she meant.
"So, are you the Kanima?" He asked and Riley rolled her eyes.
"No! Of course not. I just somehow can't be poisoned by its venom, as proven on a couple of occasions." She explained, and Scott nodded. He was just as confused as Riley was, which was quite a lot. The light turned green and she accelerated down the road.
"You know, you should meet my friend, Dr. Deaton. He works at the vet clinic." He said, and Riley frowned.
"Why? My cat's already been checked up on--"
"Not for your cat, for you." He interrupted, and she continued to frown.
"That's rude. Who's the dog out of us two?" She snapped, offended that he would call her an animal. Honestly, so rude. Scott laughed, which angered Riley more.
"Not what I was insinuating, Riley. He knows about the supernatural. He's full of information, he knows a lot about everything. Maybe he'll give you an answer." He explained, and Riley cooled down. She was embarrassed that she jumped to conclusions like that.
"Oh, sorry." She replied sheepishly. Oh, she understood why the vet was acting so strangely that day she saw him. He knew what had really happened.
They continued through the town and arrived at the station, where they got out and entered the building. They walked up to reception, and Riley asked for the sheriff. It wasn't a busy day, so the officer let them in straight away.
Sheriff Stilinski looked stressed out, and Riley was just going to put on some more.
"Hi, Sheriff. How are you?" She asked as she entered the room. Scott came in as well and shut the door, sitting down on the couch. He looked up from his desk and at Riley, then Scott.
"Oh, hello, Riley is it? I'm good, how are you? Take a seat." He said, standing up and gesturing tp the seat in front of his desk. He nodded at Scott. "Scott."
Scott waved and sat there quietly, looking around.
"So, what brings you here?" He asked, sitting back down. Riley swallowed the spit in her mouth and looked at her hands.
"Well, I'm here to talk about my statement regarding Coach Lahey's case." She explained, and Stilinski looked at her and set his pen down.
"The one where you said that Isaac and his father used to argue a lot?" He asked, and Riley nodded.
"Well, I wouldn't say that they argued a lot, only on very few occasions. You know how teens are, always so moody." She joked, but stopped when Stilinski didn't smile. "Right, well, I talked about that time when I was over and Isaac and his dad were in another room. I said that they were fighting, but now that I start to think about it, I remember Isaac coming into the room with some food and I could hear his dad still yelling. I asked Isaac about it, and he said that he was on the phone with someone. So, they weren't arguing." She made up some bullshit story to go with her bullshit lie. She really felt bad as she watched the sheriff's face slowly fall into a deeply disappointed look as her story went on. That must have been the only lead he had.
"Are you sure that's what happened? So, you're telling me that they didn't argue a couple nights before his murder?" He asked, and he pinched the bridge of his nose as he closed his eyes. Riley glanced at Scott who was watching him, then she looked back at him.
"Um, yes." She replied, and Stilinski sighed.
"Alright, I guess I'm down to one lead on Isaac." He muttered, and opened up his drawer to fetch the files on the case. "Was that all?"
"Um, yes. Thanks for your time." Riley said and got up. She wanted to apologize but that may seem suspicious. "Bye."
"No worries, thanks." He said, and smiled weakly at her and Scott before returning to his work with a deep frown. They walked out of the office, shutting the door behind them before walking out of the station and into Riley's car.
