30. shield

Riley pushed Isaac forcefully and he hit the wall behind him, as shock washed over him as well. What has gotten into Riley? What was she doing? But Stiles didn't care, he was actually rooting for her. Riley watched Isaac as he struggled to get up, his eyes on her the entire time. She started to blink and regain consciousness. What the hell just happened? One minute she remembered sitting on the couch, the next minute, she was looking at Isaac on the ground. She blinked a few and backed up, her eyes widening in surprise.

"I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened." She said, and turned around. She ran to the front door, unlocked all of the locks and ran out. She quickly stopped in her tracks when she spotted Derek, Boyd and Erica standing in the road.

"Riley. What a surprise. I was sure that you were cowering somewhere with Lydia, fearing for your life." Derek said, as Boyd and Erica stood by his side. Riley's eyes grew large, as she started to shake. No, she had to be strong. She had to tell Derek that she was innocent. She needed to show him what she was.

"Derek, look at me. Look at me with your eyes." She called out, her voice obviously shaken. Derek frowned, and continued to stare at her. "I mean... With your other eyes."

"Why should I?" He asked, and crossed his arms over his chest as he raised an eyebrow. "Why shouldn't I just kill you right now and Lydia later?"

"Because I'm not the Kanima, and I can prove it." She called out, and stood tall. She heard thumps and glass smashing inside, but right now, she had to talk to Derek. "Please, just look at me with your other eyes."

"Erica, go help Isaac. I think he might need it." Derek ordered, and Erica growled at Riley before taking off towards the house. Derek sighed, and closed his eyes. "I don't see what this is going to--" He cut himself off as he opened his eyes, revealing a bright red. His mouth opened in shock, as he saw her covered by a large shape. It was like a transparent person, who was dressed in wolf skin and fur holding a spear in her hands. It completely masked Riley; it was like she disappeared and the large warrior was in her place. It was looking down at Derek and Boyd, as if they were two little puppies and it was about to hunt them down. It definitely intimidated Derek, but how come he only just noticed it? He was sure that it wasn't there when he looked at her before. What changed?

"You see that? It's called an aura... Or a shield. I'm protected. I can't become any other supernatural creature, it's impossible. I'm protected from supernatural creatures. This shield is why you can't sense me. It's why I'm immune to the venom. I'm a Shield." She explained, after Derek shifted his eyes back to normal. Riley surprised herself with all of the information that she just shared. It was like... Something woke up inside of her and she was suddenly aware of everything around her.

"No, that's not true. It's unheard of." He shook his head, refusing to believe it.

"It is true. It's rare; very rare." Riley replied, and slowly walked towards him. Boyd stood in front of Derek and growled at her, but Riley kept walking until she was right in front of him. She didn't take her eyes off of Derek the whole time. "If you don't believe me, then bite me. Turn me. The bite either turns you or kills you, doesn't it? You win both ways; you have another member of the pack who's willing to become bitten, or I'll die. I can't be the Kanima if I turn into a werewolf, but if I am the Kanima, your bite will kill me. Either way, you win."

Derek stared at her intensely, trying to sense something from her. He couldn't do it no matter how hard he tried to. It was like something was blocking her from him. It felt like he couldn't touch her. It felt like it was difficult to touch her... Like she was surrounded by Mountain Ash.

"Derek, this isn't a good idea. What if she's poisoned?" Boyd asked, but Derek kept his eyes on Riley. He noticed no change in her; he only saw determination across her face. He had never seen her like this before; he always thought of her as a small, scared girl. But this was different... She seemed different.

"I'll heal." Derek replied, and his eyes turned red. There was a roar that came from inside, and Derek shifted his eyes up to the house and smiled, but it slowly faded as the door swung open and Isaac and Erica were thrown out onto the lawn.

Riley looked at Isaac, who was passed out. She frowned, and an overwhelming sense of concern washed over her. She backed up from Derek, and quickly walked up to the house where Scott, Allison and Stiles were standing. She looked back at Derek, and went back into the house.
