Pattie set her fork down and got up.
"I will get it, Justin will you get your brother and sister up please?" she says walking out of the kitchen. Justin shakes his head laughing and runs up the stairs leaving me alone eating my breakfast. I was in Heaven, this was amazing.
"Jessica dear," Pattie says from the front door. I quickly wipe my mouth and walk over to the front door. I freeze when i see my father standing there.
"Your dad is here," Pattie says with a smile. If only she knew. I didn't move from my spot though, i just stared at him. He was glaring at me because Pattie wasn't facing him.
"Jessica, you never informed me you were spending the night here," He says in a sickly worried tone. I swallow and still don't speak. Pattie looks at me weird and then back to my father.
"It really wasn't a problem, Jessica is a very sweet girl and is always welcomed over. My son seems to like her company, and she is a good person for him to have around, Plus my young ones love her already i hear," she says with a bright smile.
"Jessica can you help me get Jaz---" Justin walks over to me and stops when he sees my dad as well. I look at him and see his jaw tense and i can tell he is pissed. I know he hates my dad right now, but his mother is clueless.
"Jessica' you better come home and get ready for school," My dad says looking at me. I shake my head and move closer to Justin without anyone noticing. Pattie turns and looks at me with confusing on her face. Justin's hands were in fists at his sides.
"I will make sure she gets to school," Justin says in an unreadable tone which makes his mother look at him, then me, then to my dad and back to Justin. My dad shakes his head.
"Thanks for the offer, but i have to have a talk with her. So Jessica," he says holding out his hand. I can feel a panic attack coming and Pattie i think notices.
"She actually isn't feeling to well and i told her she could sleep it off here. I need a sitter for my little ones anyways, so Justin will take off school to make sure she is okay.... I mean, no sense in making the poor sick girl go to school...It's realy not a problem," She says looking at my dad. Thank you Pattie for saving the day. My dad looks at Pattie and he seems to have given up.
"Alright, i have to get to work..Thanks i guess," he says walking away. Pattie closes the door and Justin quickly pulls me to his chest while i let a few tears slip.
"Alright," Pattie says facing us, "Talk! I know something is going on and i want to know right now," she demands.
"Just let it go mom," Justin says pulling away from me. I wipe my eyes and calm down a bit. I need to control my emotions.
"Don't tell me to drop it young man. There is clearly something, if Jessica is that affraid to go home," she says looking at me. She looks at my cut on my cheek and something in her head clicks.
"Mom, please drop it," Justin says in a more soft tone.
"Jessica, now, i know it's none of my business, but i am here if you want to talk... And you are always welcomed over here," She says hugging me. I hug her back and Justin just watchs us.
"Thanks Ms.BIeber," i whisper to her.
"Now, Justin go to the store and get some milk for your brother and sister because we are out." she says making me laugh a little. Justin grabs his keys while mumbling a few choice words and leaves. As soon as he is gone Pattie looks at me.
"So, ready to talk?" she says with a smile. We walk into the living room and it on the couch. Where do i start, i guess it's now or never to let an adult know.
"My mom died aboout ten years ago..... I guess it was my fault, she got hit by a drunk driver and she died. My dad was never able to get over her. He would get drunk and come home, yelling at me for everything, then.....He hit me a few times, nothing major at first," i said and i could see her eyes watering already as i looked at Pattie, "It got worse over time and now, i ended up in the hospital. I don't know if Justin told you that," i whispered. She nods.
"I know, he stayed there and wouldn't even come home," she said back.
"Last night, i came her at 3 in the morning because my dad came home drunk and threw a bottle at me, thats how i got the cut. Justin told me he'd always have his door open for me, and i don't know. I don't want to hurt him with my problem, it isn't safe for him to be with me," i say going more into my feelings. I mean she was more of a mother figure already to me. "I mean, i am broken. Justin is perfect and can get any girl in the whole school. Yet, he chooses to help me. I don't understand it, i don't think i ever will...But i can't keep promises to him, i cut myself and he said never to do it again and i promised him, but i did it anyways," i say finishing my story. She only shakes her head.
"Baby, you don't understand do you...Justin has never in his life looked at a girl the way he looks at you. He never brings any girls here for us to meet. He never even protects a girl like he did for you today with your dad here. Believe me when i say this, but i think he actually may be in love with you," she says with a small smile. Whoa! back this up, Justin loves me? "I mean, i know that look in his eyes, his dad used to look at me the same way..... And as for your father, you aren't going back to that house baby girl. You are staying here until something is done about him, i will talk to the police, it won't be in the news or anything, i know people and he will get put away don't you worry," she says as i hug her.
"Thank you so much, you have no idea how happy i am to have met you," i whisper to her as my phone goes off. I look at the ID and it's Layla's number.
"Hey Layla!" i say but the voice that comes back isn't Layla at all.....
