Beth’s POV
The internal clock of my body wakes me up and I find Harry with his arms around me, still sound asleep. I can’t recall sleeping so peacefully in my life before, ever. When I was little sounds of smashing doors, breaking bottles and the screams of my parents fighting would keep me up at night. After I my mum left, the six days I was alone with my dad I didn’t sleep at all, too afraid that he might jump out of the darkness and hurt me in my sleep when I didn't expect it. The first time I slept after the accident was when I moved in with Linda, and that’s when the nightmares started. They were constant, horrendous and so excruciating that I was terrified to even go to sleep. When I discovered that listening to music would get rid of the bed dreams, if the battery of my iPod ever went dead in the middle of the night the nightmares would come back within an instant.
But last night even without my music, even without Harry having to sing me to sleep, it was probably the best sleep of my life. I didn’t even realise that I fell asleep, just by him being around me makes me feel safe and I can doze off without a worry in the world. And even now, just seeing him lying next to me makes me so happy. That’s how easily he can lighten my mood, just by his presence.
With his lips right in front of my eye level, I can’t help but feel the urge to kiss his full, pink lips that always seem to taste like candy canes on Christmas. I lean up, closing the remaining distance between our lips and give him a sneaky kiss, so light that I’m sure he wouldn’t be able to feel it. I pull back; only to have the living daylights scared out of me when I see Harry with open eyes. I place my hand on my chest, trying to calm down my startled heart.
“What was that for?” His groggy voice says, and it’s the sexiest thing that my ears have ever been exposed to.
“Just because,” I grin and his arms tighten around me, the space between us non-existent.
“You know, I wouldn’t mind waking up to this every morning,” he whispers into my ear, his breath trailing down my neck and goosebumps rising on the skin without delay.
I give him a nervous smile, too scared to respond to such an everlasting statement because at the back of my mind I will always know that nothing is forever, especially people. He doesn’t push me to respond, but instead places a kiss on top of my head before pulling back and getting off the bed. I give him a questioning look and he chuckles.
“I don’t want to waste the little time we have left together lying in bed. In case you’ve forgotten, you owe me a date before I leave,” he taunts.
“Ugh,” I groan while lifting myself up and sitting on the edge of the bed. I know that I do owe him a date, since I practically ruined our first one by having an emotional breakdown, but I have literally no idea what to do. I can’t take him to a fancy restaurant because I don’t crap money, although sometimes I wish I did. I don’t want to watch a movie because that’s too boring and cliché for a date. “Okay, but don’t blame me if it’s the suckiest date you’ve ever been on because I’ve never done this before,” I admit and he rolls his eyes when suddenly an idea pops in my head. “You said you haven’t been able to see Melbourne because you’ve been on lockdown right?”
“Yeah,” he stares at me weirdly.
“Don’t look at me like I’m a retard or something. I was just thinking we could explore the city, you can experience Melbourne before having to leave.”
“Yeah,” he smiles. “That sounds great. Now quickly go get ready so we can go. Chop, chop!” He yells eagerly.
I stand up from the bed, while pulling the hem of the shirt – or dress, in my case – but stop in my tracks when I realise something. “Uh Harry?” I call out once I walk halfway to the bathroom and Harry looks up from his phone.
