Ariana got into Brian’s car biting her lower lip to prevent her expression to give away the torrent of emotions that she was feeling at the moment.

“Can’t believe your boss drove you here” Said her friend

“What? How did you know it was him?” She asked nervously

“Why do you think? Or are you convinced his car is subtle enough” He said

“Ok, ok… He was coming into town so he was kind enough to drive me here” She said

“How nice of him” He said sounding sarcastic

“What is wrong with you?” Asked Ariana after sensing his tone

“Nothing… Just tired” He said “Oh, by the way… I found out you are head over heels for your boss”

“Oh God… I am going to kill Johnathan” Said Ariana rolling her eyes

“Why didn’t you tell me?!” Demanded Brian

“Because…. You’d get like this!” Ariana pointed at him “And…  Because Johnathan wouldn’t say I told you so…”

“Well… I told you so” He said

“Please don’t give me any grief about it… It’s hard enough to like a guy who doesn’t like you back, ok?” She said looking out the window while she remembered her previous conversation with her boss

“Surely there must be dozens of women throwing themselves at you… There’s plenty for you to choose” She said

“I just… I like this girl but I don’t think she likes me back” he replied

“How’s that even possible?” She asked, suddenly regretting opening her mouth

“What?” He asked in return

“I mean… Uh… Well… A guy like you… How could a girl not like you?” She stammered “I mean… You’re a really nice guy… You’re really talented…” She elaborated

“Would you date a guy like me?” He asked

“I… Uh…”

“Would you?” He tried again

Ariana was at a loss for words, wondering what the appropriate answer would be.

“Well, yeah… Why wouldn’t I?” She replied

“Then, who knows… Maybe I do stand a chance with this girl…”

“Maybe you do” She said smiling at him “I’m sure you do… Just talk to her... She won’t be able to resist you”

She couldn’t believe a conversation like that had transpired between the two of them, but certainly she was still confused about how to feel. She tried to list her feelings and realized that most of all she felt sadness at the notion of her boss liking another girl. More importantly a girl who was stupid enough not to like him back.

“Ok… Why didn’t you tell me?” Asked her friend again in a nicer tone

“I told you…  Because you’d be the first to tell me ‘I told you so’…” She replied

“Still… You told John weeks ago…” He added

“I was bursting to tell someone but… Somehow I felt you’d judge me if I told you…”

“I would never judge you… I’m just… a bit upset that you didn’t trust me” He admitted

“Sorry…” She said going back to look at the window
