“So…” Said Ariana as she set her Uno card on the pile in the middle of the table “How much longer do you think we’ll have to wait before they come back?”
James, Ruthie and Liam looked at her
“Just asking… ‘cause, you know… We’ve been waiting for three hours and they said they were only going to get the baby and be back…”
“You’re right…. This is doing my head in” Said Ruthie as she placed her cards on the table
“Well, there’s not much we can do but wait…” Said Liam’s dad as he walked into the room carrying a tray with snacks
“Babe… How about we go out for a walk?” Asked Liam taking a sandwich from the tray and biting down on it
“Yeah, that would be nice” Said Ariana getting up and following him as he walked towards the door
The walked out the front door and started walking slowly down the street.
“I can’t imagine what your sister must be feeling right now”
“She’s waited so much for this… So has Gary… But what really baffles me of all this… Is… If you have a baby… right? How could you be so heartless and just leave her abandoned in a hospital”
Ariana nodded as she had been wondering the same but she had never reached an answer that felt right
“Maybe leaving your baby in a hospital could be the only way of giving her what she needs…” She replied
“Well… I guess you do have a point… My sister is going to give that baby everything she needs” He said
“And that baby is going to make your sister and your brother in law very very happy” She squeezed his hand
“Will you ever consider it?”
“What?” She asked looking at him with curiosity
“Adoption” He replied looking at the ground
What?!
“I… I don’t know… It wouldn’t be a bad thing, I guess… But I suppose whenever I’ve pictured myself having a baby… Well, I see myself pregnant… Especially recently, you know?”
“Yeah… well, it’s just that after seeing Nicola try so hard for a baby… All those medical treatments when she could have gone straight for adoption”
“I guess she really wanted to conceive… but in the end decided that all she wanted was to become a mother, whether she could be pregnant or not” Said Ariana
Liam nodded and stayed silent as they walked around the block and it made her wonder why the subject had made him so quiet all of a sudden.
“Liam… Do you see yourself having kids? Is that something you want for your future?” She asked
“Yeah… Absolutely” He smiled down at her
“How many?” She asked again
“At least two… Wait… Actually three would be nice, but I guess it would depend on whether my wife feels up for it” He replied
Ariana’s stomach did a triple flip inside of her while she wondered perhaps for the millionth time, how the hell had she landed such an amazing boyfriend.
“I’d be up for it” She said making Liam laugh
Oh fuck! Did I say that out loud?!
“I’m glad that you are” He said squeezing her hand affectionately “I just hope when you say you’re up for it… You mean you’re up for it with me…”
