“Are you sure?” Asked Nicola for the millionth time
“Goddammit… Yes Nicola… We can babysit, you can go to your Christmas party ok?” Said Liam
“But we can leave Sarah with Gary’s mum for a while and pick her up when the party’s over… That way you guys can come over too” She insisted
“Nicky… Just go… We’ll be fine… Mum and dad should be back from Auntie Judy’s so we’ll have some responsible adults babysitting us all” Said Liam
“Ha ha… I’m being serious”
“So am I… Go please… Have some couple time with your husband… Sarah will be just fine… Look she’s loves Ariana” Said Liam pointing at his girlfriend who was making Sarah giggle in the living room
“I guess you’re right” Said Nicola looking at Ariana “She’s quite great with kids… Have you guys ever thought about having kids?”
“What?” He asked confused “Nicky… We’ve been together for six months… There’s still a long road before kids”
What the hell? He shook his head in confusion
“Alright… I’m just saying… Since it took me so long…” She said studying him carefully
“What are on about?” He asked
“Never mind… Alright… Heading out now” She said walking out of the kitchen on her way to the living room “Gary we’re leaving!” She yelled
As soon as she entered the living room, Sarah turned to look at her, smiling brightly and stretching her arms out for her. Nicola took her in her arms and held her close to her chest.
“You’re going to be a good girl while daddy and I are gone ok? No crying… No staying up late…” Said Nicola
“Nicky…” Warned Liam
“Guys… If anything happens, call me… Or Gary… Or Ruthie or James… You have our numbers”
“Don’t worry… She’ll be just fine” Said Ariana
“Nevertheless… Promise me you’ll call”
“We promise… Guys… Don’t worry…” he said looking at Gary who had just come into the room and was fixing his shirt
“Could you send us photos if she does anything funny?” Asked Gary but when Liam glared at him he explained further “She’s been making the strangest faces when she poops… I like to take pictures of the faces she pulls”
“You’re a strange dad” Said Liam “But fine… If she pulls a funny face we’ll send you a photo”
Gary took Sarah in his arms, before tickling her little feet and making her giggle.
“I love you Sarah… I’ll see you tomorrow, I’m going to miss you a lot…” He kissed her cheek and her little hands “Uncle Liam and Ariana will take care of you and play with you tonight”
“I love you sweetheart… We’ll see you tomorrow” Said Nicola leaning closer to her and kissing her cheek
“Ok, guys… You’re on…” Said Gary handing the baby back to Ariana
Sarah whined and started crying, but before Nicola or Gary had any chance to protest, Liam ushered them out the door. When he went back to the living room, Ariana was sitting on the couch and little Sarah was sitting on her lap, resting her head on her chest.
