How did Chrisy get here?

To this place?

It was the middle of nowhere.

Sunshine darkened her eyes and the quiet screamed at her much too loudly. Blinding white surrounded her and she couldn't decipher sky from land, indoor from outdoor. No path veered neither to the right or left of her and she didn't know which way to go. She just stood there, in her Jimmy Choo hot pink pumps. Prada mini dress and Louise Vitton metalic backpack.

Confused.

Stagnant.

She'd scream but no one would hear her, not even her own ears. She seemed alone for miles. Then suddenly there were walls and they closed in. Slowly, then they came more rapidly.
What now ? No where to run, no voice to scream. Her breath got rapid as panick set it, as the walls closed in around her she could only hear her own heartbeat as it jack hammered in her chest.

Then.

Her alarm rang violently.

Chrisy popped up out of bed like a toaster stroodle. Her blue eyes peeked through half opened lids and she whisked a few strands of her long golden platinum blonde hair from her face so it lay smoothly along her flawless beige skin. Thank God. It had all been a dream.

It was the beginning of another school year and the beginning of a new chapter of her life.

She would graduate from high school this year, but in order to feel good about that she had a long list of other things she had to graduate from.

Though she should have appreciated the fact that she had a lot going on for her, namely, a father who was a rich lawyer and loved her endlessly and flawless beauty that went on for days, she couldn't help but feel like something was missing. Like she lost her direction somehow.

Obviously, after her mother had fell ill of cancer and died a year ago,the universe didn't pause. Not that she expected it to, but it should have. To give her mother the due respect she rightfully deserved, and Chrisy her time to adjust, but it didnt.

As she imagined, life went on after her mother. The warm California sun still had the audacity to grin from the sky every day and the flowers in the front garden still bloomed the brightest shade of fuchsia and smelled even more delicious than they used to if you took the time to inhale.... but to what end?

She was left empty.

Nothing seemed to fill the void.

She had so much, and yet she felt like it all meant nothing. Is that all her life was going to be? Going to the mall with her friends, spending her father's money...there had to be other things out there, things that really mattered and she was determined to find it.

She dragged herself out of bed and to the bathroom. Got dressed, clothed herself with her daily dose of perk and positivity, willed away that heavy cloud of gloom that seemed to always want to follow her around and dull her shine, and then, when she was good and satisfied met her father downstairs at the breakfast table.

"Good morning dad." She kissed him on the cheek before she sat opposite to him.

"Good morning Princess..."

"Dad we talked about this....you totally agreed not to call me that anymore...remember?"

" And what have weee talked about? All agreements made without the signature of both parties involved can be considered null and void by either party at anytime..."he replied with a pleasant wink in her direction.

"Daddy?" She argued as she took the first sip of her orange juice.

"Mmmm...the juice is extra sweet this morning Sebastian" she said with a perky smile and a glance in Sebastian's direction.

Sebastian was the butler.

"Thanks Chrisy..." he replied and smiled back at her.

"You do realize he doesn't squeeze the oranges himself....right?" Her father asked sarcastically.

"I know daddy...I'm just practicing. A major part of my new image is giving compliments. Studies have shown that uplifting others brings satisfaction and happiness...I just really want to be about something this year, you know..."

"That's good for you princess, and since we're on the subject of lifting, its about time you lift your butt from that chair...can't be late on your first day....Miguel already brought the car around."

Her eyes locked onto him. Emotions oozed from it. Heartfelt and truly sincere.

"About that daddy, I don't want to go to school in a Limo anymore, I told you, I'm different now, I can't very well have the ordinary kids feeling all bad."

Her father looked at her in disbelief and pure confussion.

"I see..." trying his very best to appear accomodating. "...we'll talk about it later. Until then, don't keep Miguel waiting."

"Ok...bye dad...I'll help you with those files when I get back like I promised"

Horace bade his daughter goodbye as she scurried off.

He swallowed a cup of black unsweetened coffee. He too was trying to embrace change. Low fat, less sugar and all that. But sugarless coffee was hard to swallow. Even harder to swallow however, was knowing that his daughter was trying so hard to appear happy and for the most part he agreed she was, but somewhere hidden deep within her was that hollow that he was unable to fill, God knows he had tried, but still he new she struggled.

Chrisy met her best friend Kerry in the parking lot and they walked in together. Kerry was with Chrisy 100% on her journey to find herself. The excitement of new beginnings appealed to her. The adventure of exploring, discovering, learning, and destroying anyone who deared to get in her friends way while she did it appealed immensely.

But they day began lazily.

Same old routine. Ms Rodriquez, the principal and her extremely long speeches welcomed them as the first order of the day in the large school hall where everyone had gathered. She'd try to not ignore and stick her nose up at the woman this year. Maybe under that nerdy appearance she could have been an interesting individual. Another satisfying part of new beginnings was never passing judgement based on outward appearances. She exchanged glances with Kerry and they rolled there eyes at each other.

They felt as if they had crossed into another dimension where a minute turned into an hour and a hour was a whole day long.

Finally they commuted to homeroom.

Another introductory speach from her teacher.

Then suddenly, there it was.

There he was.

The moment he walked into the classroom she was lost. Her eyes captured every single intriquette detail of him in slow motion like she was in the middle of a Hollywood film. From head to toe he was perfection. From the jet black hair he had slicked back into a ponytail, his eyes that mimicked the richest shade of chocolate, his perfectly formed biseps that made her imagine rock hard abs beneath his shirt down to his simple black tee that said "keep calm and trust Ganesha". She had never seen him before and she was somehow drawn to the mystery he seemed to tote around with him in every heart throbbing stride.

Then the film scratched.

Her daydream came to an abrupt hault.

She was hit on the shoulder with a makeshift paper ball.

"Ouch!" She glanced in Kerry's direction. " What?"

"Who's the hottie?"

"Oh him...I don't know, didn't even notice," she lied. As she came to the realization she just made a bunch of judgements about this boy exclusively based on outward appearances.

"Right" Kerry responded sarcastically and exchanged a mischievous smile with her friend.

Chrisy's year was off to a perfect start.

Or was it all just a disguise to trick her into thinking that, so she would be caught completely of guard when trouble decided to rare it's ugly head.
