Josh rose early the next morning.
It was finally Friday. The day of the tournament. He had to be warmed up and practiced and Reid was up to help. The memory of the previous night when Josh had let him stand in a parking lot for more than a hour because of a girl, could not have interfered with the loyalty he had to his brother.
Nobody concentrated at school. They all wanted It to just be over. Anxiety over the tournament, Kerry's party, and the weekend in general. When the bell rang all feet hurriedly marched for the exit.
An hour or so later Kerry dropped Chrisy of in front of Josh's house so they could go to the tournament together. Reid was up and about as usual, almost ready to leave for work. He took up the car keys off the kitchen table, came to the living room and yelled up the stairs to his brother.
"Im Leaving...I'm taking the car!"
"What? No! You can't! That wasn't the arrangement."
Josh sped down the stairs in time to see Reid going into the car. He went out to the porch to try reasoning with him.
"It wasn't the arrangement to have me waiting for a hour and a half last night...but it happened anyway...You seriously think I'm gonna sit in the parking lot for another hour today...you must be out of your mind..."
"I said I was sorry...How am I suppose to get to the tournament?"
"I'm sure you'll find a way.' He said before he drove away.
Josh reentered the living room.
"Did you see that? What am I suppose to do now? I keep telling him this doesn't work, we need a second car...he's tripping of last night....we can't share a car, who does that?"
"Well get a second car then...what does Reid think?"
"That we can't afford it..."
"Well, can you?"
Josh took a deep breath. "No...but now Im The one that's stranded....I said I was sorry...A million times."
"Don't worry, as long as Kenny is around. We are never stranded." Chrisy reassured him as she waved her cell at him. "He's just a phone call away."
Josh smiled at her. "Great" he replied.
He went to get himself ready while Chrisy made the call, then she sat on the porch in her army green skinny jeans, wegde sneakers and camouflage top just waiting. They both stepped into the huge auditorium. White lights lit the room from corner to corner.
"Wow!" Chrisy exclaimed as as she made a full 360 degree turn, admiring the whole interior. Josh smiled at her as he saw excitement replace the nerve wracking look she had before.
"So I'll be down here..." he said to her.
"...Ill come out and sit here until its my turn. After each round I'll go back around back to refresh myself and check for injuries. He pointed to a passage to the right that led to a locker room...""Injuries?" Her face grew worried again.
"Although I'm sure there will be none." He reassured her. Josh Pointed to the center of the room.
"That's where the fights will be."
Chrisy studied the large blue ground. Padded with foam. She let out a sigh of relief, may be it wouldn't be as bad as she thought.
"And I'll be over there?" She asked. She motioned in the direction of a large area resembling the bleachers in her owns school gym only a lot bigger.
"Yes," Josh answered. "Lets go find you a seat. Its almost time."
Chrisy found a seat in the 4th row where she could see Josh comfortably.
