**FLASHBACK**The evening sizzled like eggs on a skillet. It was hot, but Josh didn't mind. His open windows occasionally brought in a bit of evening wind as dusk drew near. He relaxed shirtless and rested his back on a bunch of pillows he propped up along his head board with his laptop open on his lap and his fingers typing away quietly.
"Hey..." he heard a voice call from over by his window. He automatically shut the laptop. By the time he looked over she was already standing in his room.
"Kayla...What are you doing in here...when will you get it through your head girls don't climb into boys windows...it's usually the other way around..."
"You can't tell me what to do " She replied bobbling her head at him.
He picked up a pillow and threw it at her but she stepped aside and it sailed passed her, almost through the window.
"So...what are you up to...what highly secured network are you hacking into today."
"Don't know what you mean..." he defended innocently.
"I know your doing it...you had the look on your face. When your in the zone you get that look..."
"What zone...?"
"The 'what I'm doing is illegal' zone...."
She propped down next to him on the bed and leaned into his pillows.
"I don't get a look...and it's only for fun..." he said as he open his laptop again.
"School records...no shit Josh..." she whispered.
"I was just curious about my exam grade...aren't you?"
"I already know I failed...wait a second...can you change my grade...you can do that can't you..."
"I'm not doing that..."
"Spoiled sport."
He closed his computer again...and gave her his undivided attention.
"So...what brings you climbing through my window and into my bed?"
"I came to get you, so get your things."
"Things? Can I at least know where we're going."
"Not really...let's just call it your pre birthday party surprise ...."
"My birthday isn't for weeks."
"Thats why its called pre birthday....try to keep up. Just get dressed will you... I'll give you 5 minutes...Is Reid here. I'll go annoy him in the meantime."
An hour later they strolled down the side walk enjoying the warm busy evening.
"Tell me food is first cause I'm starving" Josh suggested.
"Yes Josh food is first...cause I know your always hungry." she teased, and smiled a smile at him that seemed to spread from her mouth to her eyes in seconds but Josh just ignored her. Or pretended to.
Minutes later they sat on a park bench. The wind glided across there faces as soothing as a gentle stream.
It was still warm out but night had fallen.
The scent of chai brewing on the street side saturated the air and the street buzzed with busy feet. They sat facing each other now stuffing down ice cream and street side Indian made candy that Kayla had treated them to and they hurried through endless dialogue like old friends that hadn't seen each other for ages.
They had already stuffed down Halwa Puri for dinner and a pitcher full of laughter but there was always more room for dessert and more laughter. Kayla made sure of it. Half way through they switched and ate from each others ice cream cups.
