Josh unpacked pasta, cooked chicken breast strips and cheese, amongst other things, from the grocery bag they had brought in. Chrisy was making him pasta. Her actual words were "Sebastian makes this cheesy pasta with chunks of chicken. Its really good. I'll make that. How hard can it be?"Josh admired her confidence.
He set a large pot of water to boil." What's that for? " Chrisy asked curiously. Not realizing he was actually helping her.
" Pasta."
"I knew that..." she said rolling her large blue eyes at him. Not wanting to seem nieve and sheltered even though she was.
" I know..." Josh smiled back. Trying not to intimidate her. Confidence was sexy.
Josh left her to her cooking while he put away the rest of the groceries. By the time he was done he had already began to smell aromas in the air.
He went to investigate.
Sure enough she had added the pasta to the boiling water.
She had gotten that part right."Where's the chicken?" Josh asked her as he looked around the brightly lit kitchen, thinking he may have put it away by mistake.
"In...the pot? Was I not suppose to do that?"
" It was already cooked babe..."
Her face brightened with embarrassment.
"...but I'm sure it's fine" he continued.
"...you're doing just great..." Josh lied.Only to put confidence back into her and make her smile again.
He lived for her smile.
He squeezed her shoulder into his chest and kissed the top of her platinum locks.
"Best Italian I'm ever gonna have..."Half an hour later.
" Dinner is served..." Chrisy announced.
She placed a plate of pasta in front of Josh on the dinning table that she had already prepared with a napkin and utensils and a glass to poor him sparkling apple juice.
Her favorite, not his.
The contents of the plate stared at him as if it was an angry thing and Josh stared back horrified....he was almost afraid of it. The pasta was soggy and the chicken was stringy and over cooked, the cheese only helped to turn the dish into a runny mess.
"Wow...I'm just so lost for words right now."
"Go ahead and taste it." She urged him.
"Right..."
"It doesn't quite look like Sebastian's but..."
"I bet..."
Josh took a deep breath. How bad could it be? He slowly picked up his fork. The pasta slid from it like it was alive but he managed to keep some on the fork; then with a brave face, he took the leap of faith and yanked the contents of the fork into his mouth. He swallowed hard.
"Well?" She asked anxiously.
It was awful! Is what he should have said. Clearly, with Chrisy what you saw was what you got. Pasta, chicken and cheese. She didn't see the need for anything else, not even salt.
"Its...umm....its...very....."
Chrisy sat opposite him. Josh didn't want to disappoint her. He searched for the words, but he had nothing. He heard her let out a depressing sigh.
" You don't have to lie..."
"Its an acquired taste...."
"Really Josh?" she said sarcastically.
She thought it was adorable he was trying to spare her feelings.
