But she didn't.

It was like dejavu. Everytime the phone rang, their hearts became a fist pounding on their chest walls trying to escape.

Tuesday morning was no different. Josh's ringtone disturbed the deafening silence in the kitchen as they sipped coffee and waited for their girlfriends to arrive. They both stared nervously at the phone sitting in the middle of the table. This time it rang again and again and again. Neither of them picked it up. They just watched until it stopped ringing and the house became dreadfully silent again.

"She's never gonna stop is she? Maybe we should just answer it, see what she wants...."

"No...you know what she wants..." Josh paused, took a deep breath, then began again. "...look, I know you probably miss her, and you're thinking, maybe just to hear her voice might be enough, but you cant, because it wont be , you know what she's like and the moment she gets into your head, we'll be on the next flight out of here...and that's not happening...."

"I know...maybe we should tell the girls then, just tell them...everything."

As soon as Reid made the statement he heard them pull up outside as if they knew they were being mentioned. Images of Chrisys reaction to Joshs big reveal seeped into his mind and it scared him. He dreaded just the thought of his fears being materialized.

"Maybe, but not yet...I just told Chrisy how I feel about her... I need more time..." By now the girls were in the house and Josh continued the dialogue in hindi.

"Reid...nahin....aap nahin kar sakate..."
Reid was silent as if contemplating what to do. His brother was telling him not to say anything and he understood why he couldn't but he didnt like it. He didnt respond immediately and Josh thought for a second he was going to ignore his suggession.

"Reid!"

"Achchhi baat hai" he finally agreed.
Kerry and Chrisy exchanged glances as they stepped inside the cozy kitchen, and heard the strange language.

" Are we interupting?" Kerry asked.

"Immpossible" Reid replied with a smile.

"Sure sounded like it." Chrisy continued as she made her way over to Josh and sipped from his cup.

" Im sure...just another way of saying how much I miss you..."

He reached for her and circled his hands around her waist. She held her head up to his gaze and offered him a wide smile.

"Josh, you and I both know that's not what you said...the next time you feel the urge to lie to me... fight it..."

She released his grip around her waist. Kerry did the same .

"We'll be outside." She said as they left.

"Nice going Josh... maybe you shouldn't try to fix anything else, we've got enough problems as it is."Reid said in frustration.

"Great...so many miles away and she still manages to ruin my life." Josh concluded as they grabbed their backpacks and went outside to meet the girls.

Josh had to apologise to Chrisy later that day, but really, what was he to say to her? Obviously there were things he wasn't ready to share.

Chrisy sat by herself under the cool oak tree on the schools back lawn close to the cafeteria enjoying the mild sunshine and the warm breeze that caressed her skin. How could Josh be lieing to her so soon? Why would he do that? Was there something wrong? Was he in some sort of trouble? Did it have anything to do with why he was working for her dad, for free, not really doing much? The questions flooded her mind.
