Chapter 29 - You and Me

Naging busy na nga ang lahat sa mga sumunod na araw. Maging ako ay naging abala para sa projects na kailangan kong tapusin. Alam ko magiging mas hectic pa ang schedule ko habang palapit ng palapit ang birthday ko. Si Patrick naman ay panay trabaho. We usually see each other constantly except this week. This week’s a hell.

“Anak, pinabook na namin ang resort para sa birthday mo. Dun na rin daw didiretso sina Sabrina at iba mo pang pinsan,” lumapit si mama sakin para ayusin ang buhok ko. Nagbabasa ako para sa finals kahit sa susunod na buwan pa yung exam.

“Ma! Bakit sa resort pa? 'Di ba pwedeng dito nalang? You don’t need to spend a lot for this. I won’t even enjoy.” Sumimangot ako.

“Why not?” disappointed na tanong niya.

“Walang aattend na mga kaibigan. May outing sila.”

“Anak, for once, I want your birthday to be grand. You are our princess you should have at least a decent sweet 16 party. And nandito naman kaming pamilya mo. I know Patrick would be there, yun pa. He’ll never let your birthday pass without even surprising you or whatever.” Marahan niyang sinusuklay ang magulo kong buhok. I miss her like this. I should spend more time with her.

Tinitingnan ko ang phone ko, tatlong araw na kaming hindi masyadong nagkakausap si Patrick, Niscroll ko ang messages at tinitigan ang last message niya sakin kaninang umaga.

Napabuntung hininga ako. I must admit it, I miss him so damn much. I’m guilty though kasi I’ve been busy with all these stuffs my mom engaged me with. This whole birthday crap. Hindi ako masaya unang-una kasi Patrick is torn. If ever pupunta siya sa birthday ko that would mean he’ll be half-hearted to do that. If he’s does not come that would mean we’re over. That’s mean, but that would totally feel a lot of bullsh’t for me.

Bumuntung hininga ako. The thought of it causes me nausea.

Tada and Friday is here! But Patrick’s not! I noticed couple of absences from him that made me wonder what’s the crap with him and his company. Nidial ko ang cellphone ko para tawagan siya but hell he hang up. Maybe in a meeting? I tried calling him for the next hour but it doesn’t seem to come through. And I’m pissed.

“Ready ka na ba for tomorrow?” tanong sakin ng katabi ko, syempre dahil MIA yung isa, si Nate and ibig kung sabihin dun. Nagkalakas na siguro ng loob para kausapin ako dahil wala si Patrick.

“Hindi ako makakasama.” Sumimangot ako dahil naisip ko kung gaano ka excited ang mga kaklase ko habang ako kay mamumuhay ng tahimik sa isang resort. Nakakainggit lang.

“Why is that?” usisa niya.
