Hero's Point of View
"Daddy, why are you calling Mommy 'baby'? She's not a baby anymore," my five-year old son, Jace, asked while I was busy helping him put on his shirt.
Napangiti ako nang marinig ang tanong niya. Bree and I are married for four years already but I'm still calling her my baby.
"It's because she's my baby. Yes, she's not a baby anymore. The word 'baby' doesn't always mean a newborn child. It can also be an endearment," I replied.
He creased his forehead. "What's an endearment, Daddy?"
"It's what you call the person you love the most. Instead of calling her by her name, I used an endearment for your Mommy.
"But you sometimes call us 'baby', too."
"That's because you're still our baby. When I call your Mommy 'baby', it's an endearment. But when we call you and your brothers 'baby', it means bata pa kayo kaya baby namin kayo."
I chuckled.
"I still don't get it, Dad," he said.
"I'm sure you will when you get older," I said. "For now, why don't you go with your brothers downstairs? Look after Josh for a while. Tell that to your twin, too. Magbibihis lang ako. Remember to keep quiet, okay? It's a secret."
"Don't worry, Dad. We'll be quiet," he said before turning his back on me to go to his brothers. "Dad, when I grow up and when I found the girl I love the most, can I call her 'baby', too?"
"Of course, you can. But be sure to treat her well, okay?"
Today is Mother's Day and I'm going to surprise my wife. Of course, I asked the help of our sons.
After the twins, we had another son. We named him Josh Evan. He's three years old already.
Brianna had always been there to support me in whatever I do. She's been a good wife to me and a good mother to our kids and a simple surprise is my way of thanking her. I love surprising her. I love the happiness she's showing every time I surprise her.
