Chapter 43

Laura POV

A body pushed past my fragile shell. I had not realised that Riker was clutching Ross' limp body until I heard him calling out pleadingly to them. That was the crowd that had built up behind me

"Stay with me buddy" he whispered "SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!"

I couldn't move, I couldn't see, I couldn't see. I just sat down on the floor a steady flow of tears on my face dripping into the stream of blood. Someone must have called an ambulance because I could already hear the ringing but maybe that was just voices in my head. I don't know what happened soon after until they arrived. Nobody except Riker had dared to come past my shaking body....yet. Streaks of yellow and white and green whirred past me towards Ross. I had already launched myself forwards and protected his body. No one was going to hurt him, not again. I could feel them moving him from beneath me but I held him stronger.

"Leave him alone!" I screamed at them. Yet still they did not give up and they carried on until I was pried from his body. They took him away and I sprinted as fast as I could to keep up. They shoved his body inside, his limbs jolted as he was tossed and turned

"Excuse me miss, you can't come with us" said a paramedic

"I'm coming with him I don't care what you say" I replied

"I'm sorry you can't" he said slightly agitated

"I'm coming. I'm coming. I'm coming"

"No! C'mon boys shut it up"the ambulance doors shut but I kept running forward. I wasn't giving in, no way.

Stupid people live stupid live. They don't listen to your screams and they don't notice your desperation. They get in your way when you need to go fast. That's exactly what they do. Pushing and shoving I was caught up in a torrent of students entering back inside. I couldn't get to him. Slowly the ambulance faded away into the horizon and I was once again alone. Riker gently walked up to me, placing a tender hand on my shoulder. I let it all out. I cried until my throat burned and my eyes sunk into my head

"It's all my fault" I whispered "it's all my fault....."
