Light "Tanoute"

Ooo, I love reviewing Harry Potter OCs.

Name: Light (birth name Tanoute, only Death and those closest to her call her Tano.)
Hmm, that's interesting.

Plot (forgive how long this is, have to explain the AU aspect):  History has always heard of the Grim Reaper, also known as Death. Who comes to "kill you" when your time comes and rip the soul from your body before dragging you kicking and screaming into the afterlife.

Well, that's not how it actually is.

You see, the Reaper is merely an agent of Death. A psychopomp, to go collect the spirits of the deceased and escort them to the afterlife. And once their judgement is decided, to escort them to wherever the gods declare that they'll end up. They also have the task of helping earth-bound ghosts move on to the afterworld and escorting them. Also...there's more than one Grim Reaper.

Since more than one person dies in a day, they have several Reapers who take up the job of upholding the balance between Life and Death. When it's time for a soul to die, Morta, the goddess of Death, sends the Reaper out to collect the soul and bring them into the afterlife. Reapers are made up of souls of dead humans who are recruited by Death to join the Order, they can only be seen by humans that are near death, or a medium. If the spirit accepts the offer, they are put through the training process, part of which involves collecting souls. If they pass through the initiation, they are presented with their uniform and scythe and are an official Reaper.
Ooo, I like how there are different reapers.

The Reaper uniform, the styles and accessories are fully customizable according to the Reaper.:

. Black cloak- length and style up to the wearer

. White dress shirt or blouse

. Black vest

. Black bottoms- skirts, pants, shorts, really doesn't matter.

. Or a sleeveless black dress over said blouse/shirt.

And of course, the scythe. The look, color and type of blade of these are customized by the reaper who wields them. They are not only a symbol of office, they're also a weapon to fight evil spirits, and to reap unwilling souls if they refuse to come to the afterlife. In addition to collecting and escorting souls they also have to fight the undead, those who deliberately went against the gods and kept themselves alive through unnatural means. After destroying them, they bring these souls directly before the gods to await judgement. Most Reapers are kind to and soothe the souls they collect, assuring them that death isn't to be feared. Usually for children and the good people. If collecting an evil soul, many will be cold and merciless.  At least Light is.

The fic itself begins after Ariana Dumbledore is killed in the duel between her brothers and Grindelwald. Light comes to collect her, and as they're walking to the afterlife she asks her what she'd like to do. She wants to go with her parents so they let her spend time together. She's upset with Albus at this point. Doesn't hate him, just wondering why all this had to happen. And so Light comes back after quite a bit of time passes by and asks Ariana if she'd like to come with her because Death wishes to recruit her and asks Ariana if she'd like to train to be a Reaper. They are granted immortality and cool powers in exchange for their services.

Ariana thinks about it and says yes, so she goes through training with Light as her tutor, she takes her around collecting the souls of the deceased as on the job training. Over the course of this, Ari and Light become really good friends and actually fall in love. Ari gets her scythe, becomes a full fledged Reaper, and has the power to change her form at will. She has the best bedside (or death side) manners of all of them). At the end, when Albus dies, it's Ari who comes to collect him.
Aww, cute. I think the thing I would just have to make sure I'd do (if I was writing this) would be to make it believable that Ariana would want to become a reaper, due to her having always been afraid of magic since she was attacked. I'm sure there's a proper way to twist it to get it where you want it to go, but it'll probably have to be something different than Light telling her she'll get cool powers.
