Aella Kane was pacing in her cell, biting her lip and running her fingers through her copper red hair. Today would be the day she died, and despite shrugging off death like it was no big deal, she was terrified. She didn't want to die so early in her life and was dreading this day for so long, wondering just how her father managed to keep her alive for that long.
She supposed her luck was running out.
A guard opened the cell door and ordered, "Prisoner 427, face the wall."
"We shouldn't draw this out," she said bitterly, though she couldn't control the shakiness of her voice. "I'll willingly go with you."
"Be quiet and hold out your right arm."
She furrowed her brows and questioned, "If you need to place me in manacles, you need both wrists. I am pretty sure you went through guard training."
Aggravated, the guard ordered, "Face the wall and hold out your right arm."
"If I'm dying, at least let me see my father first!" she begged. "What's going on?"
He clamped the bracelet on her wrist and it stung a bit, but the pain didn't dull her concern.
"Let me see my father!" she shouted. "Let me say goodbye!"
He opened the door and ordered strictly, "Come on. Let's go."
Aella glanced at the word outside of her little cell and saw that juvenile prisoners were being pulled from their cells, but her eyes caught onto Clarke Griffin and Doctor Abby Griffin.
"They're killing us all, aren't they?" Clarke asked her mother. "Reducing population to make more time for the rest of you?"
"Clarke, you are not being executed," Abby said. "You're being sent to the ground, all 100 of you."
"What? But it's not safe!"
Aella shared Clarke's worry but was still distracted by Clarke's earlier comment about reducing the population.
Clarke was fighting off tears and blubbered, "No. No. We get reviewed at 18!"
"The rules have changed," Abby reassured. "This gives you a chance to live. Your instincts will tell you to take care of everybody else first, just like your father, but be careful. I can't lose you, too. I love you so much."
"Clarke?" Aella said. "Abby?" The Griffin girls spun around to find Kane's daughter, but Clarke was subdued by a tranquilizer gun before she had the chance to say anything to her friend.
"Earth, Clarke. You get to go to Earth."
Aella tried to make a run for it, but before she could even try, a tranquilizer dart landed in her back.
"Aella, you will be okay," Abby consoled the girl, approaching as close as she dared to go.
She ignored Abby and shouted at the guard, "Let me see my father!" She was out cold before she could protest anymore.

Aella woke up before Clarke and was panicked, trying to get out of her seat.
Clarke soon was stirred awake and looked up at her ex-best friend, Wells Jaha.
"Welcome back," he said. "Look-"
"Wells, why the hell are you here?" Clarke interrupted.
"When I found out they were sending prisoners to the ground, I got myself arrested. I came for you." He looked over and saw Aella. He felt surprised more than anything, asking, "How are you alive?"
