Raven and Aella had been working on a way to boost communication with the Ark. It seemed easier than planned and the system was finished faster than expected. There was live video feed coming from both sides, all thanks to Raven.
Clarke wanted to talk to Jaha to inform him about the dire circumstances happening in the camp, but Aella was going to talk to her father.
In the tent, Aella placed the headset on and worked up the nerve to finally say, "Hey."
Marcus Kane's face lit up when he heard her and nearly cried. It was clear enough to see it.
"Don't go crying on me, old man," she joked.
"I thought you were dead, Aella. I thought I lost you too." He then looked at her in question. "What the hell has happened down there?", referring to her injuries.
"In order?"
"Sure. Why not?"
"On my first day, I was bitten by a giant water mutant snake."
"Are you-"
"I'm fine. I'm all healed up now, I'd say. Others have had it worse down here, dad."
"Anything else?"
"I accidentally cut my arm on a branch when I nearly fell into a pit of spikes."
"What the..."
"I'll explain it later. I burned up my hands and a little bit of my arm in acid fog."
"How do you end up in these situations?"
"I don't even know anymore. I almost twisted my ankle tripping on a rock when I found..." She didn't want to say his name, but her father knew what she meant.
"Wells?"
"Yeah."
"You were the one to find him?"
"Unfortunately. It's...It's not something you can ever forget."
"Oh, Aella." The poor man wanted to hug his daughter, but she was on Earth while he was floating in space on the Ark.
"I'm okay. You still wanna hear my list of injuries?"
"Keep going."
"I was hit in the head with a log and in that same day, I had a knife held to my throat." Her hand instinctively touched the scar that Murphy left behind and she immediately felt sadness creep over her like a shadow. "I accidentally nicked my wrist when I pried off my wristband after they all fried. Later on, I accidentally cut my palm with a poisoned knife, died for about a minute, and was shocked back to life with wires."
"That's quite a lot." He looked down in guilt, paused, and said, "I know you're probably mad at me-"
"For sending me here?"
He nodded wordlessly. "You have to understand-"
"I do. Dad, I'm almost twenty years old and it was a miracle that I was alive for as long as I was in confinement. I would've been floated, but you pulled some strings. It was my only chance and although Earth is a pain in the ass, it's pretty cool when someone's not trying to kill us."
He chuckled and smiled. "Yeah." His smile faded slightly, the man wondering why in the hell he had to pull some strings in the first place. She had been locked up and refused to tell him why.
"Hey, dad?"
"Yeah?"
She was about ready to confess why he did what he had to do to keep her alive, but Clarke shouted, "Aella! We need to talk to Jaha!"
