Aella Kane's adjustment period was much longer than she anticipated. Although it was expected to take about as long as Raven's adjustment period, she held herself to a higher standard and got upset with herself every time she failed to do something she was able to do days ago when she had two functioning legs. It didn't help that she oftentimes had to talk to Archer in order to assure him that it wasn't his fault.

She struggled to climb out of bed that day, almost forgetting she had to work around losing the function of her right leg as she attempted to climb out. She sighed and grabbed the brace next to the giant bed she was allowed to stay in, strapping the brace back on her leg. She was so grateful to Raven about making it, though she scolded the mechanic for overexerting herself again.

Soft sunlight entered the room diffused by curtains, Aella reveling in the warmth it provided for a small moment. She turned to see that Archer was still asleep beside her and was ready to jump in joy that the boy she called her son finally slept through the night for the first time in months...maybe even years.

She noticed he shivered a little as the sun fell behind the clouds, so she silently tucked him in and kissed his forehead before leaving the room to go to the laboratory, her leg still clunking against the ground.

"Good morning," Abby greeted quietly before noticing it was later in the day. "Sort of."

"Good morning," Aella responded. "Did you sleep?"

"A little," she answered. "You?"

"Surprisingly okay." She noticed the dark circles under Abby's eyes that resembled bruises more than anything. "Do you need to go rest for a minute? I can keep things under control here."

"I'll be fine."

It wasn't clear whether Abby was trying to convince Aella or herself more that she would be just fine, but then she knew deep down she wasn't. She couldn't fool herself when she knew that Raven was dying and she was soon going to follow. Her life didn't matter, though, because she was going to find a cure to the radiation, starting with Baylis.

She held up the empty syringe that once contained Luna's bone marrow, Aella furrowing her brow before Abby sighed to begin her explanation. "I had to, Aella."

"Had to?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"I knew you would have volunteered, but I also knew doing so would kill you. You were so injured."

"You took her bone marrow? Did you at least ask for her permission?"

She bit her lip. "We're testing a theory."

She fiddled with the ring on her finger. "Like Mount Weather?"

"We're not Mount Weather."

"Tell that to Luna." She then bit her lip too. "Next time, it's me, okay? But first, knock me out."

"It will kill you," she repeated.

"But killing Luna is fine?"

"No!" she shouted on accident. She didn't realize how loud she was until her throat hurt and her arms began shaking.

"Why do it?"

Abby stepped forward and cupped Aella's face in her hand. "Aella, I have known you forever. I've seen you grow from a young girl to a beautiful woman. I do put Clarke first—she is my daughter—but I realized how dependent I was when I saw you on the table dying."
