"It wasn't your fault!" Aella told Bellamy for what seemed like the thousandth time. He was in a mood and it was hard to snap him out of it.
Of course, he didn't quite believe her. She wasn't a liar, but he couldn't convince himself to believe her words. He had friends and he failed them. Gina, a sweet girl who seemed to accidentally flirt with him, perished because she was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. He felt like he only had himself to blame.
"What did Pike say to you?" she asked, finally deciding to give up standing to instead lie down next to Bellamy on his bed. "It must have been something because you've been avoiding me."
"You were gone for months," he defended, sounding a little too upset. "I'm not exactly over the note you left and how you just left without a word."
"I thought you'd be fine with it after a while or I'd come back sooner than you hoped."
"And I thought you were dead each day you didn't come back."
"I'm not easy to kill, Bellamy."
"That's not the point."
"I know," she murmured, pulling him closer to her gently. He responded by curling up beside her, his head on her chest as he listened to her heartbeat. It was normally a position that Aella lied in when she needed comfort, so to see Bellamy like that spoke louder than words.
"Gina was my friend," he said. "She was always nice to everyone and now she's gone. I just feel like it's my fault. I know you'll tell me it's not, but I don't believe it."
"I'm not a liar, but I understand where you're coming from."
"Is this how you felt when Maya...?"
"Yeah, but I knew I couldn't blame myself."
"God, it sucks."
"I know."
They just lied in silence until Aella began humming mindlessly, running her fingers through Bellamy's hair. She knew it gave him a sense of comfort and after all she put him through, she felt like she owed it to him. She would've done it even if she didn't owe it to him because she loved him, but something kept nagging at her mind.
"Bell, what did Pike say?" she asked suddenly. "I'm not angry or anything, but I'm just curious."
"He was just clearing my mind," he answered vaguely.
She wanted to ask for more, but that wasn't what he needed, so she just asked, "Are you mad with me? I understand if you are. I'd be mad at me, too. I left a letter...what a dick move on my part."
He chuckled and a small smile finally rose from his solemn face as he answered, "I was, but I can never stay mad at you for too long. You know that. I was worried about you, and I just... Never do that again."
"I won't. I promise."
He kissed the top of her head before standing up. She groaned at him as he left.
"Why did you move?" she mumbled into the bed. "We were comfy."
"I have a job to do, sweetheart."
"Can't it wait?"
"Nope. Your father already might be thinking we're doing the devil's tango and, believe it or not, I kinda want him to not hate me."
"Five minutes?"
