Peri POV.

I was surprised how calming the silence between me and her was. She sat in the corner, looking between her phone and her small notepad, while I was looking at nothing in particular.

I should be working on the case, find the missing peice, but my eyes always went back to HER.

But I guess it wasn't bad. Honestly, I'd looked over every peice of evidence.

I already knew what the next step was. I had already called, saying that me and lapis would be there next week.

We would have to see Casper. Talk to him. He would be released within the next three months, but on parole, because he actually had a record.

2 previous assaults, 3 recorded break in's, and a stolen car.

Suddenly I heard a knock at my door. "Yes?" A familier shorty walked in, and Peridot leaned back. "Amy! You survived!"

Amy laughed. "I've had worse hangovers, how'd you do?" I rubbed my head. "Honestly? Still hurts like hell." She laughed again.

"You're a lightweight." I scoffed. "Yeah, compared to YOU." Lapis was watching the interaction from the corner, and Amy saw my eyes dart that way.

Oh no.

She turned, seeing lapis, who gave a small wave. She then turned back to me with a sly grin. Lapis suddenly stood. "Uh, sorry, peri-dot..." She almost used my nickname.

"I uh... my boss just called... I have to go..." She gave a nervous smile and walked out. "See you... tomarrow!" Good job, inconspicuous.

Amy grinned bigger and I held up my hand, feeling heat creep up my cheeks. "Don't. You. Dare. Dont." I narrowed my eyes.

Amy opened her mouth. "You two make up~?" There it was. Well, not as big as i had thought, but her tone...

"Yes, we're back on speaking terms. But I have to work with her. Nothing is going on between us." I already knew she would say I was lying, and my red face didn't help.

"Ohhhhhh reeeeeeaaaaaally?" She said, sitting on the edge of the desk. "Because, according to my... sources, you two went home together."

I froze. Who couldve... oh.... god DAHMIT. Stupid bouncer. "Ok, i... I did drive her home..."

"leaving me with no ride." Amy added dryly.

"She skinned her knee and didn't HAVE a ride. Okay? I'm sorry." Amy's grin returned. "Somehow, I doubt you JUST took her home. Anything you wanna let your bestie know?" Amy leaned forward.

I growled. "No. Nothing happened, and no, we are not a thing, hell, we CAN'T be. Just... drop it."

Amy scanned me, her face growing more serious. "Honestly, how can you not see it?" I was surprised by her change in tone. "Its so obvious you like her."

I just looked at her. Was it really? Was it obvious I had fallen for a girl I had no business being with?

"If you like her, go for it. She likes you too, you know. That, is also, very obvious." Wow. I hope not all my coworkers can read people like a book with large print.

I blushed again, looking down.

"I would never tell, look, P, I'm gonna be real with you. you're kindof a mope. You need someone like her. Maybe lighten you up a bit." I kinda knew she was right. I was dull, hardened. I had seen things... and i blocked most people out...

But lapis was someone I felt surprisingly comfortable with.

"Okay... i... something DID happen after the party..." Amy's face lit up.

"Please say you kissed. Please. I want you to say that."

I shook my head. "Sorry. Didn't kiss. I... I confessed to her." I twiddle my thumbs a bit and blushed harder.

Amy smiled. "That's step one, and I take it she didn't reject you horribly?" I shook my head again. "She was... actually really nice. She didnt... She said she didn't want to make me uncomfortable..."

Amy nodded. "Ok, so you pretty much snagged the hottest reporter chick, who is gay, likes you back, and is not a bitch." Amy grinned. "That's some fine work there, P."

I let out a relaxed smile. "So are you two together then?" My smile faded.

We hadn't said it... but surely... no, she said it didn't have to be romantic... I started internally panicking. Did I already screw up?

ARE we actually together?
