Lapis POV.
I couldn't believe my ears. Peridot just confessed to me and I was sitting here frozen. I was squeeling in happiness inside, but my face stayed blank, save for my eyes getting wider.
She had closed her eyes and was looking down, probably in fear of rejection. I couldn't speak, my mouth felt utterly dry. Ok, calm down lapis, there are other ways of saying yes right?
I could kiss her... but I don't want to rush it like that. I could nod? No... that would be weird.
A hug. A tight hug would say "yes" wouldn't it? I gulped, lifting my free hand onto her shoulder.
Body language lazuli, you can do that.
She flinched a little then looked up, god she looked cute. Her eyes, filled with worry, shifted to surprised, and her face softened. I gave her a smile, then wrapped my arms around her shoulders, pulling her into a tight hug.
Ok, well now what? I started panicking, because she hadn't moved, and I still felt like I couldn't speak...
"Lapis?" Her voice was unsure, which made sense. I pulled out of the hug, gulping. "S-sorry..." great, now id made it awkward.
We sat in silence for a minute, and then peridot stood. "I... I'm gonna go take that shower now... haha..." it was nervous laughter, and I stood, grabbing her hand before she could walk away.
She turned, blushing. "Please peri... don't leave.... i..." I let a smile appear on my face. "I like you too...." I found myself drowning in her green eyes again.
"Really?" I maneged to roll my eyes playfully at her shocked expression. "Why do you think I hugged you?" I was smiling now, but it was less forced, and a small grin appeared on her face as well.
It dissapeared as soon as it appeared. Peridot pulled her hand gently from mine and rubbed it. I tilted my head. "Is... is something wrong?"
"I... I didn't think youd... this makes things complicated..." I was still confused. Did she think I would reject her? Was she counting on me doing so?
"I... don't quite under stand, peri..." I huffed in laughter nervously, my mouth was beginning to feel dry again.
Peri didn't say anything, but didn't walk away. I was trying to think of something to say to her, when my phone rang.
"H-hello?"
"Hey~"
Was that a flirty Hey? Who is this?
"Uh... who... who is this?"
"You hurt me baby, not remembering the guy that fought for you last night. Did I not-"
I hung up. I don't know how that dick got my number but I was not gonna talk to him, espeically after he "fought for me". I looked back up and peridot was still there, standing awkwardly.
"Its not supposed to happen." I was surprised when she spoke. "You and me, lapis. It could get me fired, it could put you in danger, I couldn't do that. I shouldn't have said anything..."
"No, peridot I don't care about that. I care about YOU. And I'm not gonna pretend I'm fine with letting you walk away." I stepped closer. "You're the one who confessed, that means something."
"But what Now? I don't know how this works! And we'd have to keep this a secret from everyone!" She looked down again.
"For multiple reasons..." the last part was a whisper.
Peri sighed heavily and ruffled her hair while growling. She was frustrated and confused. I didn't know what to say. But she had a point...
"We could just... get to know eachother." Peri looked up, hands still in her hair. "It doesn't have to be necessarily romantic at first.... we could just hang out."
I stepped even closer, grabbing her hand. "And I promise I'll keep it low-key. I don't want you to lose your job either."
Peri blushed a little looking at our hands. I pulled my away then leaned in to kiss her cheek gently. "You can go shower now. I'll find us something to eat."
I walked into the kitchen breathed a sigh of relief. I've never felt that nervous... the things peridot makes me feel. I groaned slightly and scratched my head as i looked around.
Now for food...
[ sorry for posting a bit late today, I completely forgot and my phone was on the fritz earlier. 😑
