The gunshots had stopped, if only for a moment, and all I could hear now was the uneasy silence and distant radio and footsteps. And of course, my own wildly beating heart.
But something in me knew I shouldn't be afraid. Gunshots meant fighting. And the only fighting would be between them and someone good. Cops, FBI, hell even the agency. I was split between hoping it was Peridot, hoping she'd be the first face is see, and hoping she was nowhere near. Not in danger.
And then I heard a door slam open, and my prison box roughly pryed open as well. A thick, rough hand grabbed my arm, and I stayed silent as I was pulled away.
Then a sudden turn, and my body was pulled against his, his forearm around my throat and a gun cocked close to my right ear.
"You've made a terrible mistake, bitch. All you had to do was walk away!" And a gunshot. I winced, hearing it hit what I assumed was the box I had been in moments before. The click of another gun, I was unsure if it was a cock or a clip reload, was heard farther.
So someone was here to get me. Or everyone. Others were still on the roof, I guessed. And whoever recognized me.
"Come out and drop your weapons and maybe I'll let your little friend live." Then the gun was pressed against my forehead.
"NO." it was deeper, angrier, frustrated. I could not tell if it was a man or woman. I gripped the man's arm in fear.
"No what? What's it gonna be?"
There was a silence, before I was pulled backward. "Any movement and I'll blow her pretty little head off."
I heard a sort of shuffle, but I was pulled farther back, indicating the man was attempting to get away with me. And then I was being roughly pulled down a hallway, having to scramble to keep up with the man's pace, whining on instinct to his tight and harsh grip on my wrist.
I could hear footsteps after us, and gunshots, firing and zipping past us. The man fired back. I felt dread when I heard the slap on the floor of someone falling. But a distant shout and more footsteps.
Then I was pushed out a door, stumbling onto the ground and feeling wind. We were outside again.
I couldn't stand it. I scrambled forward, ripping off the blindfold and turning around, only to be grabbed by the throat by the man. He pulled me back, hiding next to the door.
It wasn't the man who had slapped me, but this man was larger, and much more imposing.
We were on the roof, which made sense. But on a shorter building next to a grande building. I looked up to see the begginings of a storm. How ironically fitting.
But when the door slammed open and a familier blonde head blurred out so fast yet too slow, being slammed in the head with the butt of the man's pistol…
"No!"
He huffed, kicking her and making her flip over onto her back. "What a runt. And this was yours? Ha!"
I felt anger rush through me. I pulled away, so hard and fast he stumbled, his eyes widening then narrowing, but I kicked harshly, his gun flying away and off the edge of the roof.
"You little-" he gripped his hand, smiling. "don't worry, I have other ways to make you obey me, bitch."
The sky cracked with thunder, the rain choosing then to pour down.
