Y'all gonna hate me after this.
(Also this is alot shorter than I thought but... I dunno)
Peridot POV.
I was awoken by a sharp knocking sound, and groaned, nuzzling my face deeper into lapis's hair.
"Peri... someone's at the door." She sounded sleepy, but didn't move.
"Mmhmm..." I didn't care. It was too early for something like this. Too early to have to get up, especially after such a night. I just wanted to lay here with lapis.
But the reporter wiggled and sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Then I'll get it..."
I grumbled, opening my eyes and wrapping my arms around her waist to hold her. "Lappy... just let them leave... stay with me."
She chuckled, and turned, warmly kissing my forehead and rubbing my cheek. "I'll be right back. I'm just gonna see who it is..."
This time a whimpered, nuzzling into her shoulder and not releasing my hold. "Noooooooo..."
She giggled, pulling at my hands until she was free, making me drop back onto the mattress with a groan.
"So clingy~" she giggled, ruffling my already very messy hair. "Love you, dork."
I just hummed, listening to her light footsteps walk over, stop, as I assume she threw some clothes on, and then contenue down the hall.
I relaxed, hearing the familier creek sound of the door...
And then... a thump.
I blinked and looked up, seeing the light of the door go away, but no footsteps coming back down the hall.
"Lapis?" I instinctively reached for the metal bat under my bed, getting up and throwing a shirt on. "LAPIS? who was it?"
When I didn't hear her answer, I went out into the hallway, gripping the bat tightly as i looked franticcly around the apartment.
She was gone.
I rushed to the door, stopping and seeing a note. My throat went dry, as I grabbed and opened it.
Dear agent Green,
I didn't want it to come to this. But you're getting very nosy. I thought Casper and all those fake clues I left would STOP you, but you are quite determined.
So, unfortunately, I think it's time we stop that. I have taken your partner, as I'm sure you've guessed.
I want you to resign. Quit the case, and the agency. Then, and only then, will your little friend be returned.
It's up to you, Greene. What is more important to you?
-DA
I felt tears well at my eyes, as my hand gripped the bat tighter.
Everything was so quick. I wasn't processing it. I was just frozen...
They had lapis.

Within the next hour, I was blankly sitting on the couch, messy but clothed, while a few agents talked and examined the area around my door.
I couldn't take my eyes off the bat, and my thumb lightly traced the faint lines of the note in my pocket. I hadn't handed it to them. They'd figure out about me and lapis.
But did it matter now? Lapis was gon a either way, and either way... she wouldn't be working for the agency. Not for much longer.
But a familier figure walked around the couch, hands behind his back.
"Greene." He said it softly, but firmly, snapping me out of my small trance. I slowly looked up, blinking.
"I'm sure this is... hard. But what excactly happened, again?" He stayed standing.
"Lapis..." I paused, closing my eyes for a second and taking a breath. "She stayed over, to reveiw the case." A lie. "I heard the door open, then a thump, then the door close. I got worried and came out here to find her gone."
He nodded. "But nothing else? No messege, nothing?"
"Not that I found."
It hurt to lie like this. Everything I'd worked for was going to end, Everything I cared about was gone, and everything was crumbling around me.
"Well...greene, I think... I think it's best if I suspend the case. You're already stressed with it, and this situation..."
I let my eyes widened, and I stood up. "But sir! Whoever took Allie had to have taken Lapis! We can't jus-"
"Peridot. Stop. I'm sorry. You're off the case." I felt myself choke, and he turned, waving the other agents away. He stopped, looking back for a second. "I think you should take some time, as well. Of course I can't make you stay home... take care of yourself, greene."
The door closed, and I was left alone again.
Everything hit me again, and I fell onto my knees, tears streaming down my face as i sobbed. I brought my fist down on the couch, shouting angrily at nothingness.
I curled in on myself, gripping my hair and shaking.

Lapis POV.
I coughed, pressing my hands against the tight wooden container again. My voice was dry from shouting. But nothing had come from it.
I was so confused. The second I opened the door, someone in a hood pressed something in my face, and I was out.
I woke up here.
Whatever this container was, it was upright. I pressed my forehead to the front of it, breathing heavily, as tears ran down my face.
I didn't know where I was, who was at the door, or what they had planned for me. But most of all I was scared for peridot.
Had they gotten her too? Was she okay?
What if I never saw her again...?
