"Charlotte?" She questioned and stared at me for a long time. Well at least it felt like it but slowly her confusion turned to sadness, and that sadness turned to anger. I could see it as bright as day in her eyes. I whispered softly, afraid my voice would break if I spoke any louder. My real voice finally coming out of my mouth. "I'm sorry." And then I ran towards the window.

I jumped out of the window but halfway through, I stopped. I made the terrible decision to look back to see the flames in her gorgeous teary eyes which were very noticeable from how angry she was. My heart broke as I realized how betrayed she felt because of me. James was waiting for me outside, on the edge of the window and grabbed my arm as soon as my feet touched the ground. We ran side by side with me ignoring my backache after that ugly fall from the stairs, running from the guards just like a few hours ago. Luckily the guards still haven't seen us. Yet.

We found our secret entrance which was a small hole right underneath an invisible part of the wall. James let me crawl out first and then he crawled after me. We looked back and heard noises of feet rushing towards the hole. "Come on!!" James pushed me forward and I ran, feeling pain on the side of my stomach. I'm no runner or an athlete so give me a break.

I can hear James's feet behind me as we ran towards his cabin. "James!!!" I heard a loud scream from far away, right behind the walls. It was almost unheard but the venom was vividly clear in whoever's voice that belonged to. He seems to have a strong disliking to James but James seems to be untouched by who ever that was. He just ran beside me, his feet quickening as he realized we're close to his home.

Soon enough, his cabin came to view and I felt relieved but fastened my pace as we both jumped up the stairs and got inside his cabin. I got in first and James came after, slamming the door behind him. We were both out of our breaths.

"We'll be fine. They can't catch up to us; we're a good distance away." James said still breathing heavily while leaning against the wall. I nodded my head, feeling instant relief but with images of veronica's face haunting my thoughts. What have I done? How could I be this stupid? I can never forgive myself.

"Hey, are you okay?" I looked up while leaning my body against the wall, hearing james concern. "Yeah, I'm fine." I responded, placing a fake smile on my face with a saddened heavy heart.

James walked to his living room and took his mask off, carelessly throwing it on the table in front of him. "Good." He said, still panting while his sweat is dripping from his face. He slumped himself down on the couch and sighed in relief. I followed him and sat beside him with both of us, still breathing heavily. It was a long run. "It's getting late. We should fall asleep. I'll give you some of my clothes so you can sleep well. I hope you don't mind sleeping here?" He patted on the couch and I shook my head, not minding at all.

He grinned at me and stood up, heading to his room. When I heard his door shut behind him, I hastily took my leather mask off and threw it angrily across the room. I placed my head in my hands and rubbed my face. What am I doing? Why am I caring so much? She'll mean nothing to me after I'm gone.

"Hey, you sure you're alright?" I looked up and saw James with a concerned frown upon his face. I nodded my head and made a pathetic excuse to shut him up. "I have a bad headache. I'm sure falling asleep will take care of it."

He nodded his head and stepped forward with clothes in his hands. "Well, here's your clothes." He placed them on the table in front of me. "Don't forget to blow out the candles before you sleep. Goodnight." He gently smiled at me before turning around to head to his room.

"Goodnight." I called out to him with a decision that it's better if I should just fall asleep and pretend that today never happened.
