I stared at her as she snored quietly, her lips slightly ajar with glistening drool coming to my view. I wanted to laugh but the pain in my heart wouldn't allow me to.

I know I should leave now. Especially now since Charlotte's asleep; if she woke up and saw me leaving, she would drag me back to bed. She would probably convince me to stay and sleep with her till morning. Then she will stick to me like an armor, refusing to let me go.

Ruin everything in our time.

I can't let her do that. I won't let her do that. I leaned down to plant a soft kiss on her forehead, lingering for awhile before pulling away. I lifted the mattress across her naked body, covering her as she hummed quietly, turning to opposite side.

I smiled at her bare back, examining the scratches I made earlier. I couldn't help myself but reach down and kiss her shoulder, caressing her arm slightly.

I felt tears building up in my eyes but I pushed them back. I can't break, not now. I got off the bed as she resumed snoring. I rubbed my eyes, taking a deep nervous breath.

I was fully dressed and ready to leave. I walked up the door, unlocking it quietly and gently pulled it open. I took one last glance at Charlotte's sleeping frame before closing the door shut.

I started walking, not wanting to linger any longer. I didn't want my heart to pull me back next to her in bed. It was like a struggle inside of me.

A part of me wished for life and love. I knew I could have that with Charlotte around but what's the use? Charlotte will go home someday and I will be left alone. I will have Zoe and my family but not my other half, not Charlotte.

Another part of me wants to be logical and faithful. Charlotte is not staying, she can't stay and I will not force her. She will go home. Why would she stay anyways? When her entire life is there. Years after.

I will have to accept my destiny, god's will, and die as I should. I don't care what Charlotte says.

What she's done... is beyond me. I don't know how she did it. Return time and change it. Changing everything that god is writing and leaving her mark on his paper. Splattering the ink and messing it white sheet.

I walked down the stairs to main deck to see Hugh sleeping fondly at the entrance of the ship. He had his feet dangling up at the edge as he leaned back on the chair, snoring loudly to my discomfort.

He's one of the ship crew and supposedly is guarding the place at night. Clearly, he's doing a fine job.

I slapped him across his head as he fell down from his chair, looking around with wide eyes and a startled look. He looked up to see me with my hands on my hip, glaring at him.

''Your highness, what are you doing here?'' He stood up, bowing slightly before looking back at me with a guilty look.

''Well first, what are you doing sleeping on your shift?'' He gulped slightly at the dark tone I was using before shuffling his feet on the wooden floor.

''My apologizes, your highness.'' He brought his head down in shame while I breathed out in annoyance. I sighed again, telling him it's alright as long as no one comes in.

He cheekily smiled as I turned to leave but was stopped by his questioning.

''Would you mind me asking, your highness...'' He lifted his head up, biting his lip anxiously before asking. ''But what are you doing here at this time of the night?'' He frowned at me while I hesitated to tell him or not.

It's best if I do or else, they'll lose it when they see a strange woman coming out of my room. They might think she's a thief and hurt her on my behalf.
