After a long walk to the castle alone, I managed to reach in time before the sun went down. I entered the castle while greeting a couple of guards who walked past me. As I walked on the long hall, I heard my name being called.Emma, one of the maids I met a few times by now, stopped me. She was fairly young and appeared to be a teenager in my eyes. She's short too, compared to the long legs I have. She was so sweet and welcoming, even though I was only here for two days, I felt appreciated by her.
''Princess is looking for you.'' She spoke with nervousness and I knew that didn't sound so good. Her eyes looked behind me and I turned around in time to watch the princess striding our way. I heard Emma mumbling a quiet and quick good luck before rushing off to the other direction. My eyes never left Veronica.
''Where have you been?'' She asked. I could hear the anger in her tone. I flinched a little but kept my feet on the ground. She can try to intimidate me all she wants but I was as pissed as she was. She didn't come to support James when he needs all the love he can get right now.
"I was at-" I wanted to explain but she raised her hand to stop from speaking.
"I don't want to hear it." She said with attitude that made me confused. I swear just this morning she was in a good mood. "I need you to fetch my dress from Mr. Maguire. You'll find him near the main bridge, across the river on the other side. He's an old man with a grey beard. Now, go." She shushed me and before I could say anything, she left me in the silence.
I don't understand why is she acting like this. I understand she's stressed but doesn't she know, that I was at a funeral? I can't believe her. I wanted to ask her permission to let me stay with James for a couple days but she wouldn't even let me speak. She came and gone with the wind.
I turned around to walk back outside, knowing I have to follow her orders and do what she says. Hopefully, I'll get there and return fast before dark.
----------------------------------------------------
It was dark and unfortunately, I was extremely late. It's not my fault that the bridge is too far away. I sighed heavily as one of the workers was waiting to receive the dress from me. He helped me get it down from the horse I was riding on and carried it inside.
I followed closely behind him when he took the dress to Veronica's room. He knocked and I heard her firm voice telling him to come in. He went in and Veronica looked relieved to find the dress in his hands. "Bring it to the bed." She ordered him and he did as he was told.
He rushed out of the room and I came in. Veronica's eyes laid on me and she didn't look happy. I shut the door behind, preparing for scolding that I'm going to get. "Where have you been?" She stood in front of me with her hands on her hips.
Not in the mood to argue with her, I replied bluntly. "I went to get your dress." She frowned at my tone and I think I angered her even more. Shit.
"You should have told one of the guards to bring it! You have duties here." She said and I looked at her in disbelieve. Instead of getting a thank you, I get this. "Look around, Zoe ruined the place and you weren't here to clean it. I had to ask one of the maids to do your work." I chuckled and shook my head, shocked and feeling a fire burning inside of me at this moment.
"What are you laughing at?!" She yelled, annoyed and I looked back at her. This time, clenching my jaw to stop myself from acting out.
"I'm sorry," With gritted teeth, I apologized. "I didn't know I had to tell one of guards to bring your dress. I'm new to all of this." I made an excuse, a good one too. However, she didn't have any of it.
