5 years later

Staring at the screen on my table, I bite my finger nail with nervousness that was aching my stomach. The codes were changing automatically and even with the resistance system applied on my tablet, it kept happening.

I had dozens of codes and I needed to find the perfect match to fire up the machine correctly without any mistakes. Subject #57 has failed us after a loud disrupted noise came from the engine at the back of the machine.

I sighed to myself and looked down at my lap, where Sophie was sleeping peacefully and soundly. She does not seem to mind the noise of eight people running around in the room.

I rubbed her back smoothly and smiled down at my little girl. She was growing but her size remained the same. She was still the small and cute baby dog that I adopted a few years ago.

"Hey boss, would you mind giving me a hand?" I looked up at Joshua, who was sitting on top of the machine and waving me over.

I carried Sophie with me, noticing her waking up but she was too tired to pay me any attention. I placed her on her bed, which laid on the floor and put the blanket over her.

I walked back to Joshua as he told me to bring the tool box from the ground to him. I did what he said as he went back to work.

"How's the cables, Josh?" I called out to him as he looked down at me and sighing heavily to himself. That was not a good sign.

"Well, the cables are good but we might need a new distributor or at least a replacement for the ring; it tore apart." He cringed to himself as I clearly didn't like what I just heard. I closed my eyes to breath in and out deeply. I was sick of hearing bad news everyday but I won't let that get to me.

I knew this wouldn't be easy since we are doing this in my basement, in my new house and we did lack some resources but we have came too far to give up now. All the guys have been very helpfully to take extra time from the working schedule to help me out, which I am very grateful for.

I turned back towards the control table to see Olivia, Jess and Christopher reading through old documents from professor's machine and my previous machine. We were comparing data and electronics.

"I think the codes could be arranged in a better order." The voice of Rachel startled me as she was standing next to me, watching the trio work together.

"What do you mean?" I questioned her while crossing my arms, gesturing her to continue.

"We are using professors codes, which won't work due to the extensive differences between this machine and his." I rolled my eyes at my friend, already knowing this information but we have been trying and nothing works.

"We know that, Rachel. We are trying every possible alternative but, it's just that complicated." I sighed with defeat and dropped my shoulders, feeling horrible at myself.

"What if it's not the codes? Would a stronger voltage do?" Rachel gave another the suggestion that made something click in my head. I turned to her as she twisted her metal neck with curiosity as I smiled so wide, my cheeks hurt.

"You're a genius, Rachel!" I shook her shoulders with excitement while she stared at me with no expressions, clearly incapable of doing so.

"We need lesser voltage." I stated, letting go of my robot and turned to Olivia who raised her eyebrow at my loud statement.

"But I said higher voltage, Ms Harvey." I walked away from my intelligent creation and stood across the table, staring down at the three pair of eyes. They all looked confused including Joshua who was sitting on top of the machine.
