I opened my eyes after the tension on my back subsided. Sophie barked as she got off of me, exploring the scenes I'm assuming.
This ride was definitely the toughest one; it wasn't as smooth as I thought it would be as my back slammed hard on the ground of dirt.
My vision was blurry at first but after awhile of adjusting, a familiar face appeared on top of me.
''Hey Char!'' The cheeky blonde guy who always seemed to be the same optimistic man I know, smiled down on me while I laid on the floor. He had his silky golden hair back.
''Hey James.'' I replied, less enthusiastic while my body adjusted to the time difference and heavy travel.
Did I mention I spoke to James months ago before I came here? I told him about my plans and how I am coming to stay. In his time, it was a couple days ago but in mine, it was awhile.
I felt his hands pull me up to crash me into a tight hug. I've been getting a lot of hugs lately, this time it was more exciting than the ones before. It was a welcome back type of hug.
After the dizziness from before, I was able to respond and hug my best friend back. I felt him pick me off the floor and squeeze me really tight before placing me down.
He pulled away to look at me with his bright blue eyes and that unique smile that I have missed.
''I am glad to see you, Char. Please, tell me this time you're really staying?'' He frowned, looking a little concerned and pouting slightly.
Even with time, he didn't change much. I felt quite sad he needed my reassurance again but nonetheless, gave it to him.
''I am, James. I'm staying for good.'' I assured him which made a huge grin appear on his face. He looked down at the ground around us to see my bags and Sophie running around his legs.
''You brought someone.'' He said excitingly and leaned down to pick her up. He cooed and rubbed her head as she barked while I sighed to myself as I looked around the familiar place.
We were just outside the castle walls, near the gates but the trees kept us away from guard's sight.
How long have I been waiting for this moment, the day I will come back and it's finally here. I am seeing Veronica again and I don't know what to feel. It was a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
I read the letters during my free time and they scared me...actually terrified me. The way she wrote with so many diverse emotions; one time she would be sad, the other time she would be angry. Then she would be content with herself and talk me about her day but then, she would show me she's hurt.
That was the emotion that pained me the most; when she was hurting and longing to see me, longing for answers. I never want her to write those letters and to have these overthinking thoughts.
Although, those letters kept me motivated and here I am.
''I prepared a room for you in the castle. I thought you might need a place to stay before you meet Veronica.'' He offered, keeping that smile on his face as he looked down at my bags while carrying Sophie on one hand.
"Does anyone else know I'm here?" I asked as I grabbed my backpack to sling it over my shoulders while James carried my suitcase.
"I told Alex." He causally said, shrugging to himself and started walking. I followed him towards the gates but not before making sure nothing fell from me as I hit the floor moments ago.
"I had to stop him for talking to his sister. Didn't want the surprise to be ruined." He added and winked at me, while we went through the gate.
I noticed the guards not questioning a thing or pointing out my strange appearance. They nodded their heads at James and then at me before letting us pass without a word.
