"This is it." James stopped walking and dropped his bag on the ground. I exhaled in relief while wiping the sweat from my forehead. After returning Felix, James grandfather's horse, we were left with our feet to drag us in this heat. It was unusually hot today.James even offered to give me a back ride but I refused. Only two minutes later, I was on his back as he dragged us towards the market.
We stood in front of James's wooden shop, for the first time for me and a long time for him. People were bumping past us as the shop was in the middle of the market and the place was crowded around us. It was always like this, from what James told me on the way here.
"It looks nice, James." I told him as he smiled softly, his eyes showed a memory of yesterday.
He reached down to the bag of tools and said. "It is nicer inside. Come on, we got work to do." I followed behind him as he lead the way. Pulling his key out of his back pocket, he unlocked the door and entered while coughing as the dust just blew into his face. I stepped in right after him and covered my mouth.
For god's sake, couldn't he at least come to visit once and clean this place.
"Sorry for the mess." He apologized as I removed the hand from my face and looked around. I saw chairs lining up on one side, tables on the other. Empty cabinets with shelves containing small wooden pieces of random shaped objects.
I walked closer to the small figures. I saw a small piece of a wooden man with a hat on and a lady with a stick and a bow tie around her waist. There was a figure of a dog, a cat, a horse, a bicycle and many more. "You made all them?" I smiled at the tiny pieces on the shelves in front of me.
"My father and I did. He was more talented than I was." I heard him from the back and I turned to look at him, taking a broom out from a back door.
I walked his way to see that behind the counter, he had a set of unfinished pieces of chairs or tables or the small figures I just saw. I didn't expect the shop to be this big.
"This place is amazing. I didn't know you had a talent like this in you. Most of the time, you're just a lazy asshole." I chuckled at my own joke and James just mocked my laugh while taking the broom towards me.
"Start sweeping and get to work. we got business to do." I smiled and was about to take the broom when he stopped me. "Wait," I gave him a bored look. "Are you sure you can work? You just woke up yesterday. I don't know if-"
"I'm okay, James." I cut him, assuring him that I'm fine. I don't feel anything wrong in me. It's as if it never happened.
"If you say so." I smirked as I got my hand on the broom. "But if you feel any tiredness, you tell me and we stop." He continued with a worrying look.
I nodded and was happy that he was being considerate. Although, I don't need him to worry. I feel fine.
I'm just glad we finally got to bring him back to his father's shop. After countless begging from Hector and I, he finally agreed. To see him in the shop with a smile on his face, I know we made the right choice.
After what felt like a couple hours, I was arranging the little figures on the shelves and James was working on one at the back. I heard someone walk in and when I looked over, I saw an old lady wearing a worn out dress. Her grey hair was long and dirty. She gave off a really weird vibe but I attended her anyways.
"Are you looking for something specific ma'am?" I asked but all she did was stare. She was staring at me, in the eyes and I had to back away a little.
I turned my head to look at James to see that he was busy focus on the piece, not noticing this strange lady in front of me. I gulped and turned back to her. "You want something?"
