Since a child, Astra has hated hospitals. Cold rooms, cold feeling. A terrible place to die. As she stood there, watching Fury almost dead with a bunch of doctors surrounding him, she felt as if she'd taken him for granted.
He helped her when she was different. He wasn't a trustworthy person, but still to a certain extent you could count on him.
Natasha ran in the white room and stood next to her best friend. "Is he gonna make it?"
"I don't know." Steve responded.
"Tell me about the shooter." She demanded.
"He's fast. Strong." He answered her. "Had a metal arm." Natasha's breath hitched as she recognized the description.
Maria entered next to Nat. "Ballistics?" The red-head asked.
"Three slugs. no rifling. Completely untraceable." Maria answered.
"Soviet-made." Astra pointed out.
"Yeah." Maria agreed as she continued to stare at the doctors trying to save her boss. "Sometimes I forget you're not an agent, Stark."
"Sometimes," She admitted. "I do, too."
The doctors moved around frantically, shouting orders. "Don't do this to me, Nick." Natasha whispered.
Time of Fury's death, 1:03 a.m.
While Steve and Maria walked out the room, Astra stuck by Natasha's side. Pulling her in for a hug. Natasha didn't cry, but she felt all the pain anyone would. And standing over his dead body made it all too real.
"Natasha." Steve pulled her out of her daze. She stormed out the room, Steve and Astra following. "Natasha." He calls to her.
"Why was Fury in your apartment?" She demanded to know.
"I don't know." He shrugs his shoulders. One, he hesitated and two, he looked away.
"Cap, they want you back at S.H.I.E.L.D." Rumlow called in the hallway.
"Yeah, gimme a sec." Cap tried to give himself time.
"They want you, now." Rumlow tried to hurry things up.
"Okay." He started to get annoyed.
"You're a terrible liar." Natasha criticized, grabbing Astra's hand and dragging her away. "Why didn't they pull you away?"
"Because, technically, I'm in Texas." She responded before adding. "And Rumlow's an idiot."
"You two used to date." Natasha brought up with a slight smirk.
"Which was a mistake." The vigilante rolled her grey eyes.
"Tell me, what happened?" She asked, her eyes desperate to know.
Knowing her friend and the hurt, Astra gave in. "Fury told us that S.H.I.E.L.D is compromised and not to trust anyone."
