It's me again God,
Your guidance has never been more needed in a world that is full of deception in so many forms. I look to You today to guide me:
"Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here. But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world's viewpoint, and the world listens to them. But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception."
1 John 4:1-6 NLT
Lord I thank You that You guide me and have made it possible for me to know the truth. Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit which this passage reminds me is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Keep me from those who do not really know or proclaim You. Please help me to detect the subtle lies of the enemy and to be kept safe from those who sound convincing but do not acknowledge the truth about Jesus.
Lord I choose to put on my armour:
"Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness."
Ephesians 6:14 NLT
Jesus spoke of this same sort of thing with His disciples:
"I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock. Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following. Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you—my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you."
Acts of the Apostles 20:29-31 NLT
Thank You Jesus, for this warning and for the truth You spoke when You were here. Please help me to stay in the Word, spend time with You and rely on Your Spirit to guide me so I will quickly detect any distortion of the truth.
Today I loudly proclaim all that I believe as stated in the Apostle's Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
(*that is, relating to the universal church, the body of Christ)
