It's me again God,
Thank You so much for Your Word which teaches me so much each day. Jesus You often taught Your followers using a variety of parables, using a simple illustration, often comparing two things to bring understanding of a spiritual principle. Your teaching was recorded by various eye witnesses who allow us to sit at Your feet Jesus and learn directly from You!
""You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:14-16 NIV
How special that You call us 'the light of the world' when this was how You also described Yourself:
"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.""
John 8:12 NIV
You don't appear to be asking us to be the light of the world but telling us that we are the light. This is a great responsibility and one I choose to take on. We receive Your light and then give it out! You are living inside of me Holy Spirit and so Your light is evident to others.
Lord I know that sometimes I can choose to hide my light and keep it to myself - like putting a lamp under a bowl! The illustration sounds ridiculous - of course I wouldn't do that with a lamp as it would not be fulfilling its purpose! Lord help me to be bold and to be a city on a hill that cannot be hidden, that I may always bring glory to You!
